Where can I here folk music in New Hampshire. I live near the southern border, so I wouldn't mind going into Massachusetts a ways. I really don't want to go to Boston.

Please e-mail your responses. I have a feeling I won't find my way back here.

Thanks! Sh

The Bull Run Tavern in Shirley, MA (close to NH) has wonderful shows and facilities. Friday and Saturday nights are typically folk and acoustic. Their web page is at:

....Tiger

p.sp. Also try The Muse in Londonderry.

If you're not to far from Loudon, there's the House & Porch, Irish concerts with an after performence session following. Very welcoming. The Press Room in Portsmouth has been running a music/singing session for many years now. Barry

Biddy Mulligan's in downtown Dover has a session led by Ryan Thompson (Capt. Fiddle) every Thursday and features other folk nights. This Friday (May 21) Liam and Micky Spain from Manchester are on stage (at 9 p.m) and they are often joined by Shane, Rory and Conor Makem of Dover(The Spakems, I call the quintet). Always a great three-set night with a Scottish/Irish traditional flavor, and with some other pleasant surprises mixed in.

Nelson Monday night contras are starting up again soon- they only happen in the summer these days. The Peterborough Folklore society is trying to do what the Folkways did; so is the Monadnock Folklore Soc. It's a happenin' place over here in the so'western corner of the state! In Manchester NH we're very lucky to have a new club trying to start up that believes in and supports acoustic music. Mitch at Strange Brew on Market Street (603-666-4292) has been very supportive and a pleasure to deal with. Of course, he needs volume to keep this going.

On Tuesdays you can see my humble self doing bluegrass, old country, original folk and general strangeness, on Wednesdays there's open mike night with delta blues scholar Paul Pruitt, Friday I do the dinner show before the (usually electric blues) band starts up at Nine-ish, and Saturday Paul does the same. Sunday I think there's a mostly electric jam session/open mike but I'm sure acoustic players would be welcome. I dunno what happens on Thursdays, if anything. This information is for May/June 1999.

It's a bar/restaurant. The room is beautiful. The stage area is huge on the restaurant side, a little cramped in the bar. There's a house PA but I prefer & use my own. Handicap access is GREAT, no steps at the entrance and a ramp leading down into the restaurant.

My newly constructed web-page is www.mv.com/ipusers/echobeach

Just a minor correction, the blues man at the Strange Brew is named Paul Prue. He also hosts an open-mike at the Chit Chat Lounge on Wed. nights in Haverhill, MA.
