Subject: Identity Theft on last Mike Harding Show
From: GUEST,Keith (Pegleg Ferret)

On Wednesday Mike Harding played The George Formby Snr parody of "My Grandfather's Clock" and said it was sung by Cockersdale but he couldn't find any details of which album it was from. This is not surprising as the track was sung by us (Pegleg Ferret) from our album "Not Fooling Anyone" Harbourtown Records HARCD 046. I don't know if Cockersdale or Mike Harding have our bank details and are raiding them and ordering vast amounts of useless stuff from Amazon or Ebay but we want our identity and attribution back!!!

Seriously if you're not one of the main performers on the folk scene it's very difficult to get the sort of publicity that airtime on the countrys leading folk programme generates and I feel that the wrong ought to be rectified.

I hope you mudcatters will support Pegleg Ferret in this and will help by contacting the Mike Harding Show to let them know of the Cockersdale cock up.

For more information on Pegleg Ferret contact me on kpferret@blueyonder.co.uk or visit our myspace page www.peglegferret.com

Hmmm... 'We all make mistakes!' as the Dalek said, climbing off the dustbin!

I'm sure Mike will be mortified when he learns of his mistake (or more likely one of his researchers!)... he does get a lot of unjustified flak.

We'd be delighted if you could either visit our Failsworth (Oldham) studio, or arrange a telephone interview one Monday (we're on air from 7pm to 8pm, repeated Fridays in the same slot - or online, no 'listen again' yet).

A copy of your CD would be handy so we can play a couple of tracks the week before.

I'm the producer, and Ali O'Brien (ex Director, Saddleworth Festival) is the presenter. We used to broadcast on BBC GMR before the radical shake-up...!

Bernard
Please e-mail me on kpferret@blueyonder.co.uk and we'll make arrangements for the interview etc.

Meanwhile I've heard from several people who will be contacting Mike Harding directly but any further support would be much appreciated!

By the bye, we're singing at the Durham Miners Gala on Sat 10th July, at the Rothbury Traditional Music Festival on Sat 17th July and the Yorkshire Waterways event at Goole on Sun 25th July.

Cheers,

Keith

This isn't the first time this has happened on this haphazard show. Back in 2005 , they played one of my songs "The lonely black's moth" and credited it to Kate Rusby. I was inflamed and moreso when she went on to become a huge star whereas I'm reduced to grumbling on message boards whilst she's handling Ronan Keating's Bodhran.

Quite Frankly, I'm amazed Mike Harding is still presenting the show. I think titling it "The Mike Harding show" has made the possibility of changing presenters quite slim. After all, how many 'Mike Harding's do you know? I don't know any. The closest I get is Mike Johnson and he'd be a crap radio presenter due to the gap between his teeth causing that whistling sound which got him banned from The Bull & Bush, our local. Still, I was quite pleased he got banned as it meant I could fire into his girlfriend, the curvaceous Sally "no-hair" Maclean.

Re the original post

Have you contacted the show yourself? Have you had a reply yet?

The answers to your questions are yes and no respectively.

Continuity Jones
These things happen and our posting was not intended as a rant against Mike Harding but as a lighthearted observation on the folk 'industry'.....I'm sure the misattribution will be corrected and we'll be given credit in a later show.

Cheers,

Keith

Sorry it had to happen to you but some good might come out of it. I'll be at Rothbury and am looking forward to seeing the ferret again.
