It's been a wonderful October -not only because I did not go to Llanstock but a good friend passed away last week and blow me I got burgled yesterday. However, not after sympathy -butto reflect upon the irony that these rather fraught moments bring. As I was getting my inventory of stolen goods together -wedding ring I never wear, mobile phone I never use -I turned to my sacred collection of CD's -Oh no I thought, years of collecting wasted -but no I as wrong -not one Bob Dylan, not one Steeleye Span not one folk compilation missing -however my husbands Simply Red and the soundtrack of the movie Titanic appear to have been the victims of his dreadful crime. I hope that the insidious little oik is locked in a room somewhere with Celine Dion blasting away his eardrums -that would be justice indeed.

That IS a bummer... 'cept about the Simply Red and Titanic. I always worry about what's going to happen if someone breaks in and goes after my cds... Will they be thieves with unusual tastes, and take them? Or will they be so pissed off by the selection, they just smash them to bits? Unless I get YOUR burglars, Dorritt. Then maybe they'll take my roomate's Fluke cd... :D

Bummer indeed, but quite amusing to picture the look on his/her face when they saw your CD collection. Not much resale value in Steeleye Span at the local pub.....

Ickle I've been burgled. It was about 256 years ago and I'm still made about it. I lost a Hamilton Rail Road Special (pocket watch) and a carved ivory chess set amongst other stuff. I empathize strongly. But don't worry Karma will get them. I hope it comes in the form of continuous rap music and the loss of the ability to climax.

My sympathy to you dear.. A few years ago, my house was broken into, they stole stuff such as tv's two vcr's a camera, etc. Fortunately, I am a firm believer in recording serial numbers. I gave those to the Police, and a few days later, the thief was caught. I got my stuff back, he got 5 to 7 at the Graybar Hotel.

Some idiot broke into my parents' apartment when they were in grad school (since when do students have anything worth stealing?). I think they were mad at the slim pickings because they took a bunch of sentimental stuff--class ring, some keepsake coins (ordinary wheatback pennies given by great-grandmothers), a string of old glass beads. My parents didn't even own a TV, and you just don't get that much for reselling textbooks . . .

It's an ugly feeling to know a stranger has been rifling through your possessions. It's worse when you find out that the thief was someone you loved and trusted. I lost almost everything of value but the only thing I still mourn is a set of wedding rings - parents, grandparents and great grand parents. The weren't worth anything to anyone but me. I pity the fool wearing them or something made from them. They are cursed to eternity.

This is a true story about a folk friend of mine.
His car was stolen from a railway station while he had taken a train to Leeds (Yorkshire UK)In the car was a collection of folk tapes he used to play while alone in the car. The police traced the car by following a litter of discarded cassettes. Obviously the thief did not like my friends choice of music most of which were Martin Carthy and Steleye Span.
So Ickle Dorritt I am sorry to hear of your problems but you can be thankful they didn't take your copies of 422 or Picking Sooty Blackberrys. Thanks for the biscuts you sent to Llanstock See you some day Cheers Bill

Geeziz, what a crap month you've had, I'm so sorry.I've been burgled and I know what a nasty taste it leaves in your mouth for a very long time afterward.
I am a great believer in "What goes around, comes around" and I like to believe this bar-steward will spend all eternity being forced to listen to the Watersons and Maddy Prior,Hell being very much of matter of personal interpretation.
