Is it OK to ask this? Hiudai is I know an Irish language first, personal name. Does it have an English language equivalent? And what exactly does "A Chara" mean? (I have a good idea but would appreciate the literal meaning).

Big Tim, This is Hiudai, about my name,Hiudai is the form I use because it is the friendly informal translation of Hugh. Actually, the Irish translation of Hugh is Aodh, pronounced 'EE', like Aodh Rua O Domhnail,Red Hugh ODonnell (called Red because of the colour of his hair) and Aodh O Neill, two great Gaelic Chieftians who had to flee Ireland along with the other Irish chieftains after their defeat by the invading English,this departure is called the Flight of the Wild Geese in Irish history. Anyway, Big Tim, I learned my Ulster Irish in Donegal where the formal Aodh is not used among friends, I much prefer the informal Hiudai myself and use it all the time, except when I'm signing cheques.
