I am impressed! Bob has a new student whose guitar had to go to the shop before he could get more than one lesson in. Clever 14 yr old - he got a board, drew strings and finger positions for practicing that first week. When he came today, with his guitar - straight from the shop- he was already ready for his 2nd lesson. (And No Calluses from that practice.)

Who woulda thought.....?

Glenda- How resourceful. It's good to see that kind of dedication from a budding musician. I don't think I would have thought of that solution, (though I have at times practiced mentally, which can also help).

With an attitude like his, this student should go quite far. Nice to see, thanks for the report. BlueJay

Now that's a great invention. All we have to do is sell it to those heavy metal and Rap guys and we've got it made.

Truth is that a lot of early difficulties in learning to switch chords is in getting your fingers to form the shapes as you place them onto the strings. When I was learning (at about that same age,) I often practiced the shapes on my textbooks while at school and have recommended doing something similar to others. But I have to hand it to this young enthusiast, he improved on that concept quite a bit.

Please extend to him my congratulations and admiration.

Thanks for the comments. Textbooks, huh?

I am thankful to have a guitar to learn on that fits me.

The kid is truly resourceful and anxious to learn. He will be a joy to teach. Bob needed one like him about now!

Wish he'd get about 5 more with that desire to learn. Anyone know anyone in the Myrtle Beach, SC area wants to learn to play too? ;-)

Great tip to share... but please ask the Help Forum to take the BS out of your title-- it ain't! It's a music thread, and a good one.
