Tech: Looking for good web based email

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend.

Trying to recommend a good web based email site.

By 'good' I guess I mean: lack of junk mail, easy to use interface, fast and reliable service, minimal banner adverts and no popups.

Not asking too much, am I? :-)

Would be grateful for any pointers.

there is good web based e-mail? (sorry - I have extreme prejedice against web-based mail. it's a semi-irrational dislike)

Visto.com can also be configured to notify you over ICQ or other Instant Messanger when a new messge comes in... It really is a great service...

I use mail.uk2.net in the UK. They only ever mail me about my domain name which is also via them. So no junk mail about my e-amil per se. It doubles as SMTP & POP3 and is integrated (if I want) with the domain name. No pop-ups and a bit of a banner. The web based service is global but the POP3 may not be yet.
I am well pleased.

Bill...I have problems with my yahoo, also...get almost nothing but spam through them...and there is no way to stop that (exepct taking each and every address and blocking them one by one)...but on my hotmail account I have it set to exclusive...where nothing can get into my inbox unless I say so...everything else goes to the junk mail...
