This article isn't very long but it's brought up an interesting line of research realted to women singers beyond menopause. click here

Maybe other folks have more information on the subject.

Sounds interesting, Genie, but I couldn't get "there" from your "click here."

Neither could I. It said, "The parameter is incorrect." *Gee, that sure was helpful to know.*

What is HRT?

HRT is Hormone Replacement Therapy. The article is over here, I think.

Folklore around my area has always (as long as I can remember) been that "after a certain age, little old women turn into little old men."

Changes in what are commonly called "secondary sexual characteristics" are well documented in the literature, both clinical and popular, about perimenopause. It is certainly reasonable to expect that changes in voice quality can occur.

Whether "protecting the voice" is material to whether a woman should engage HRT is something that only the woman (and her physician) should decide.

John

Thanks, Amos.
I went back to look up the link again, and it's the same one you posted. Dunno why the first one didn't work.

And, John, you are right, of course. This is only one of many factors to consider. I DO think it IS worth considering, though.

HRT is a subject that any woman fortunate enough to reach the age where it matters must consider. As a "bystander" I can certainly be sypathetic (and very, very afrrraid).

I will note that a number of well known female singers have been quite respected for their "husky, mature" voices in their later years. Now for Frank Sinatra in his later years - maybe he missed a good bet by not getting a little HRT.

(joking - of course)

John

..."after a certain age, little old women turn into little old men..." and little old men turn into children...

"after a certain age, little old women turn into little old men..."

Or is it that men are always little old women?

;-)
