Hi everyone from down here in New Zealand. I have been pointed in the direction of the Mudcat Cafe as a good guide for folk music knowledge and boy is it that. I am an ex New Yorker (are you ever really that} you NY's out there know what I mean. Lived here in N.Z for twenty five years now and have a good band going (please visit(http://www.jewsbrothers.com) and a loyal following here.At the start of June we have been invited to play at a festival in Denmark which is very exciting for us and with time up our sleeves, for June and July does anyone know of good festivals or clubs to play at any of the following.Denmark Belgium Holland London area. Or maybe a resource you could pass me on to. Thanks guys. Hersh.

Hi Hershal,

there are qite a few mudcatters here from those parts of the world.... I'm just around the corner from you in Sydney!!.........

my advice is become a member and send a few personal messages to a few people...... the ones that spring to mind are

Brendy (Denmark) Mooman (Belgium - check out the Brussels threads) there are lots of Londoners / UK folk..... try Noreen, Micca, Morticia,

they should be able to point you in the right direction

welcome to mudcat

Here is a link to Hershal's website ROUGE RECORDS.

A WONDERFUL tune plays when you go there! The Jew Boys are mentioned as "New Zealand's premier klezmer ensemble," The site is not only about the Jews Brothers, but other artists.

Welcome, Hershal!

Hershel and Friends - you picked the right time to be in London ! Do you know about the KlezFest that is happening from 21st -25th July ? It's organised by the Jewish Music Institute, SOAS, London University -not only Klezmer music, also dance, Yiddish theatre, films, you name it.... Details on the website: www.jmi.org.uk e-mail them on : klezfest@jmi.org.uk

Another good point of contact: The London Jewish Cultural Centre www.ljcc.org.uk (e-mail: admin@ljcc.org.uk)

Have fun ! L'chaim ! - jeanie

Just click on where it says "Membership has its rewards" and join up, Hersh! It's free and simple to do. Welcome to the Mudcat Cafe. I love klezmer music! You might be interested in this old thread: Great Klezmer Links.

I am sure the UKers will be along...but PMs are a good way to get their attention, as Alison suggested.

All the best,

kat

Have a good trip.

GUEST,Hershal
try cresby.com, I always plug my site - it does not help with London venues but I point to sites that cover "Folk" nationally in the UK. Feel free to click me.
So what part of Godzone are you resident in? I lived in Wellington for 18 months in the mid 80's.

Thank you all. Thanks Mr Red a great site for info. By the way I'm in Auckland. You didn't get down there much I guess.New Zealand is a booming country now, and their folk scene is very strong along with many other types of music styles.

Katlaughing ( what a beautiful name!)thanks indeed for the Klezmer links.

Hersh
