Subject: RE: Tune Req: Lady nothyns Toy Puff By John Renbourn From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 22 Sep 02 - 06:28 AM Deb, I KNOW I have this buried somewhere - I've just been looking through all my music but to no avail. It's in an old copy of "The John Renbourn Guitar Book" which I think was put out by Oak Publications (not sure) in the 70s. The piece is in music notation, not tabs, if I remember correctly, and it has lots of other good stuff in it as well so you'd probably like the whole book. If you PM me with a postal address I will send you a photocopy of Lady Nothyng - IF I can only find her! Bummer, but I'll keep trying. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: lady nothyns toy puff From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Sep 02 - 10:42 AM The correct spelling is "Lady Nothinge's Toye Puffe". It appears on several of Renbourn's albums, but I was unable to find the lyrics or any sound samples online. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: lady nothyns toy puff From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 23 Sep 02 - 11:01 AM I thought that it was an instrumental piece (certainly by Renbourne) which would account for the lack of lyrics (if I'm correct) R |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: lady nothyns toy puff From: Watson Date: 23 Sep 02 - 12:29 PM Right, it is an instrumental piece - and I don't play guitar, but I would say chords wouldn't be much use. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: lady nothyns toy puff From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 23 Sep 02 - 02:19 PM It's in The John Renbourn Guitar Book, which was published back in the 70s by (?)Oak Publications. I've mentioned this already in the other recent Lady Nothyng thread, but: Somewhere buried in my flat I do have this book, though a recent search failed to turn it up (never can find anything when I want it, grumble, growl). The piece is in music notation, not tabs, and has no words. If you PM me with some sort of postal address, and IF I can find the wretched thing, I'll post you a photocopy (if!!!). The whole book is great, with lots of other good material in a similar vein. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: lady nothyns toy puff From: Dipsodeb Date: 26 Sep 02 - 05:58 PM Hi Bonnie thanks for all the trouble you have gone to. Sorry I haven't answered, I have been off line for a few days. I think I will probably go and buy the book. Sorry if I seem daft but what does PM mean in terms of sending my address is it a private way of responding to your message as I would not put out my address onthe web. Let me know, in case this comes up again. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: lady nothyns toy puff From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 27 Sep 02 - 07:14 AM I didn't know what a PM was either, and wound up shouting the question in capital letters until a kind Catter came and rescued me! It stands for "Personal Message" and if you go to your Personal Page and look at the bottom you'll see the links - do feel free to practice on me if you want to. You can send me your email address (if you feel like it) via a PM and that way it will be private: you're right not to put it on a public site. If you do get in touch I'll give you mine too. Let me know if you have any joy finding the Renbourn guitar book - I think it may be out of print, but there are probably some secondhand websites, or maybe JR's own website? I STILL haven't been able to lay hands on my copy but I know it's around here somewhere so I'll keep after it. If you like Lady Nothinge you'd probably like the whole book. Hope you're successful! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: lady nothyns toy puff From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 27 Sep 02 - 07:26 AM PS I don't know about anyone else, but I'm having awful problems getting the Mudcat site to work for me in the past few days: it seems to just stall for indefinite periods so I've not been on as much lately because it just bottoms out (all my other net activities function as normal so it's not the server or my puter). I mention this in case you contact me and get no response, so you don't think you're being ignored! |
