Rather a nice little page dedicated to the old Irish ballader, Zozimus, with text of several recitations: click here. My apologies if this site has already been posted. I did not see it in a supersearch.

Sounds like Zozimus (Michael Moran) must have been quite a guy. Some claim he's the author of The Finding of Moses and The Night Before Larry Was Stretched, and apparently The Twang Man.

Wonderful site, kat. Thanks for posting it. I have sung "The Finding of Moses" at many gatherings, including Getaway. That site is loaded with stuff about Zozimus that I never knew.

All the best,

Mick

Joe

"The Twang Man" - maybe, but I doubt it. "Larry" - no way!

My understanding is that the words to "Larry" are attributed to William Maher.

Oh good, thanks Mick. I wasn't sure as I didn't know anything about him until I did a supersearch. I found that site while looking for a recitation someone else was looking for.

I doubted "Stretched," too, Martin - that's why I couched my words carefully....
Actually, I have questions about the authorship of all three.

There seems a fair chance that what we now hear as Moses is a folk-processed version of Moran's work.

The contents of the site look familiar. Back to searching my bookshelves....

Nice site, alright.
The Zozimus item, originally a pamphlet, was reprinted a few years ago (by Carraig Books of Blackrock). I have a copy somewhere.
