The excellent Portsmouth Shantymen (website address http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/alan.j.hardy/Pompies/)will be appearing at the Waltham Abbey Folk Club on Monday 7th November. They sing all kinds of maritime songs in wonderful four part harmony and are really worth seeing.

Waltham Abbey Folk Club (website www.walthamabbeyfolkclub.com) meets every Monday from 8:30 p.m. at The Royal British Legion,Brooker Street, Waltham Abbey, Essex. Directions are on the website.

A warm welcome is extended to all.

Lynne Heraud

"We all come down on Monday night"
Hey ho away we go
"We swing to the left, then we pull to the right"
Hey ho hey me boys
"We all pay our entry fee"
Hey ho away we go
"There is nothing worth watching, on T.V"
So away we go me boys

They really put on a fine show -- they performed at our Portsmouth (New Hampshire, USA) Maritime Folk Festival a few years back. Great singing!

Hi, Sooty, if you're reading this! I've found some more Dillon Bustin stuff.

Linn

Hi Linn

They're doing flights between New York and London (Stansted) now, which is just up the road.
Not sure if there's any cheap flights though.

The club isn't by the sea, though we get plenty of puddles this time of year.

Oh - I think Portsmouth Shantymen are absolutley tremendous - I have had the pleasure of their company every Easter for many a year. I would encourage one and all to go and see them - they will really open your eyes to what shanty singing can be. Thema nd Stormalong Joh of Liverpool are just Masters.

If you get the chance - ask them to sing the Good Old Way and/or Babylon is Fallen - it will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up - i guarantee it!!!

And please tell them love from Lancaster!

Been listening to at least one of their CDs (including "Babylon Is Fallen" this afternoon while trying to get a few things done on the computer.

Great listening -- and even better in person. Say "hi" to them for me.

Linn
