It's funny how you end up with lots of the same strings in the bottom of the gig bag!
I've got dozens but can't make up half a set!
Because I buy a particular brand of nylon string, which comes with an extra, "composite" G string, I also have a large stock of hard-tension nylon G strings that I don't know what to do with. Seems wrong to throw them away, maybe I can make a fishing line.

Happy New Year, all. Perhaps there's a teacher (music or otherwise) near you whose students would enjoy making homemade stringed instruments? I never have enough strings for the kids who are interested here. My little harp uses guitar strings too, and I never have enough. I also wonder if there might be a sort of spare string recycling program at a local music store? Even a designated cardboard box where donated strings could be chucked and from which others could select the strings they need?

Nice idea maeve, but the local music stores sell lots of strings and probably wouldn't be too keen on a free-string-share-co-op operating from a cardbpoard box in a corner of their own store.

Guest half-wit, I think you've just enlightened me as to where those "odd" notes keep coming from when I play!

Personally, I have not tried E A B D and the other E but do find that the nylon G strings chafe.

If you could add a few used strings to those making a full set, you could send them to the second strings project. They accept full sets (all 6 strings) of used guitar strings & get them to folks all over the planet who otherwise would not have strings for their guitars. Some folks I know collect them from folks & then pack 'em up & mail 'em out to Darryl & Kevin. More info at:
