Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 18 Jan 08 - 05:10 PM Certainly did meet (again) - hey, while you're on; sing "Teaching mi worm how to swim" for me...... |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 19 Jan 08 - 02:10 PM Hmmmmmmmmmm sorry I am a misery and only do sad or depressing songs. However Staithes is great for hearing stuff that makes you split yer sides laughing. |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 19 Jan 08 - 03:15 PM Apologies Tim - case of mistaken ID - but I did hear that song sung there last year I'm sure (though maybe had more to drink than I realise) |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,Tony Leonard Date: 20 Jan 08 - 07:41 AM I have to plead guilty to singing teaching me worm. Written by Bill Newton who wrote hundreds of great comic songs. Sadly Bill is no longer with us. I got the words and chords from Bill,s widow. |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 20 Jan 08 - 07:45 AM Hi Tony - sing it for me next Sunday at the Station; see you there - hope you've pencilled me in for a spot as requested Cheers - Jim |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 20 Jan 08 - 08:11 AM Tis no problem mate when you are me you are grateful when someone thinks you are someone else. Actualy when its wives that think I am errrrr someone else its not too bad But if its the husband of a wife who didnt think I was someone else and so is just the husband that thinks I am some one else. That is a bummer and now you know why |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,King Daft Date: 20 Jan 08 - 10:57 AM Staithes is fantastic and is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to having a brilliant time, amongst good company and superb entertainment from the common and not so common folk. I havn't missed the fest yet and I don't intend to. Free entertainment by class performers from all points of the compass, including two great lads Mike and Twilt who travel up from the Lake District every year. Tony you have conjured up from nothing a marvelous time for a lot of people. I know the amount work that Tony Leonard has to put in so everything runs smoothly and I think he deserves a pat on the back.(I might even buy him a pint). It's great to see that everybody is made so welcome, regardless of their ability or standing in the folk world. All the best Tony and I hope to see you and lots of our growing amount of friends at Staithes. KD |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 20 Jan 08 - 12:12 PM Martin??? LOL You are sooo right about Tony and the rest of you who make it all work. Did you see Twilt arrive on his hog last year V nice guitar strapped to his back? I think his car blew up on the way over, but did he let us down? (well actualy he could have brought his banjo) LOL All heros |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 20 Jan 08 - 12:17 PM Hey KD - you still got your name on the Asbo register? |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 20 Jan 08 - 12:19 PM dont start me of I gotta write some miserable songs tonite |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,King Daft Date: 20 Jan 08 - 02:55 PM To anyone who has never been to Staithes. Staithes is sort of in two pieces, one an established town as you see everywhere at the top of a steep road(this is where the Captain Cook is and the bulk of the happenings). At the bottom is a stunning, historic fishing village as beautiful in its own way as any you would see in Cornwall or Devon. It really is captivating on a warm balmy summers night and even without the music in abundance it is a hidden treasure on the North East coast well worth a visit. So why not sample the village and the fest in one go. Tell your friends and if they are up for a song or two or not, they will have a ball. That's a promise. KD |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 20 Jan 08 - 03:50 PM He's a poet isn't he.... put's it so beautifully - how can you resist? Get yourselves there... |

Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST Date: 21 Jan 08 - 05:47 AM Yes Lowden, sadly my name has been added to the ASBO register, for being an Abhorrent Singer Behaving Outrageously after one occasion having had another after midnight beer, when I should have gone to bed. I'm told my picture has been pasted on the back of a caravan and displayed country wide by the folk police, as a deterant to others who dare to sing daft songs at festivals while under the influence of intoxicating liquids. KD |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Nick Date: 21 Jan 08 - 06:12 AM Hopefully come up and have a sing and play at some point over the time. Didn't make it last year as we were away but hopefully will this. Enjoyed it when we came a couple of years ago. |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 21 Jan 08 - 07:14 AM I hope you do make it Nick. Maybe you could drag some of the other Flaxton folk over for a sing? |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 24 Apr 08 - 03:59 PM http://www.myspace.com/loftusopenacoustic Loftus club organiser(one of anyway) Tony Leonard Great bloke runs hiring fairs for Folkies at this venue. I included the link so you can get the info for that if you are looking for a chance to maybe get some gigs lined up. But also to remind you all that it aint all that long now 'till the Staithes music thang. So go look at the vid collection they are building up of the club nights and maybe get your selves booked in for a spot at the hiring fairs. Cheers |

Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,King Daft Date: 30 Jun 08 - 09:56 AM If you are one of those people who don't like singing, laughing, joking, drinking, eating, being happy, being friendly, having a good time, playing music, listening to music and generally being in a most welcoming place, akin to a musical heaven, then I'd give Staithes a miss this year. KD |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,Cliff Date: 30 Jun 08 - 10:03 AM Hey, thats me! But I'm gonna come along just to make sure I'm not missing any fun I can moan about :-) |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Blowzabella Date: 30 Jun 08 - 11:37 AM It's purely by coincidence, but I'm going to be in Staithes for a week from 12th to 19th July. I'm on enforced rest from the hosspickle, though, so will probably need to avoid most of the fun - unfortunately ... :( |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 30 Jun 08 - 05:15 PM I dont blame you Blowzabella I too will be in the area but only to monitor the naughtiness and music levels. I jsut hope I dont have to make any reports to the Fun police. |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Joe G Date: 01 Jul 08 - 08:41 AM Hi Not been before - we are going on holiday until the Wed and wouldn't be able to make it until the Friday and Sat night and probably do it last minute if weather looked good - is there usually space left on camp site or does it fill up? Is the site close to the action? Cheers Joe G |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,Cliff Date: 01 Jul 08 - 08:50 AM The site IS the action Joe! Usually space available & the main pub is only 150yds away. But the main singaround is held in the site hut. Get yersel there & enjoy it! |

Tell everyone to get their arses along at some point it is a grand few days of sanity in a crazy hate filled world. Anyone heard about the slow/beginers sessions and singerist things? Dont Crusty look different after the hair cut? |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,Cliff Date: 11 Jul 08 - 05:09 AM Anyone heard about the slow/beginers sessions and singerist things? Nope! Whats this about? Anyone? |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Tim Leaning Date: 11 Jul 08 - 06:02 AM Methinks is a job for........ Super crusty!!! Only he can answer such deep and complicates questions. There was talk of providing unacompanied singers(with or without earfingering) some space to do what they do so well, and maybe even a beginers session so that some of us who are not so good at the joining in could have a less pressured attempt at some tunes. |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: GUEST,Cliff Date: 11 Jul 08 - 06:18 AM Shouldnt we ALL be at the beginners sessions? Vin & Betsy would be lonely in the main room I think :-) |

Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Alio Date: 12 Jul 08 - 05:31 AM It sounds wonderful, and I love Staithes, but don't think Saddleworth would be impressed if I wasn't at the festival!! Have a fantastic weekend - and hope the weather shines on both of us!!! Ali x |
Subject: RE: Anyone fancy Staithes this year? From: Nick Date: 12 Jul 08 - 10:43 AM What time do things happen? My wife and I were thinking of coming up on either Friday night or Saturday night - what is likely going on? Alternatively is there anything on during the day on Saturday? |
