Subject: WSM in Nashville seems to get it!! From: Art Thieme Date: 10 Jan 10 - 11:03 PM I live in North-Central Illinois but late at night we pick up WSN quite well. I hadn't realized that the grand ol' station has rediscovered what a humongous vault of incandescent music they were hoarding like a dragon and it's golden treasure. That noted, WSM has discovered, fairly recently I think, that modern acoustic bluegrass harbors some of the most talented singers and pickers in the whole world. The blends hearken to past masters while creating new aspects to bluegrass for young phenoms to excel within. The station sometimes fades out--but then they fade right back in. Back in the 1950s I used to listen to WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia from Chicago via long-distance AM radio like this. It sounded even better through the static---and it was even more of an achievement for our having to build antenna contraptions that pulled the sounds in better. The bluegrass sounds and old-timey music being created TODAY by so many, to my ears, is 200% better than modern country music offerings that sounds like pop pap at best. In reality, it don't pass the pop-pap test at all. Just one guys perspective. I'm really liking what WSM is doing. To Eddie Stubbs and all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! Art Thieme Peru, Illinois |

Subject: RE: WSM in Nashville seems to get it!! From: M.Ted Date: 11 Jan 10 - 01:12 AM Thanks for posting about this Art--for many years, Eddie Stubbs had about the best country music show ever on our local public radio station--and thanks for posting the link, Kat--there was a time when that's what all country music sounded like--like Art, I was a Midwesterner who listed to WWVA when the sun went down-- |
Subject: RE: WSM in Nashville seems to get it!! From: deadfrett Date: 11 Jan 10 - 12:55 PM Yes Folks ..Eddie is the real deal. In addition to being a walking encyclopedia of country and bluegrass music, he is a great musician. He played fiddle with the famous Johnson Mountain Boys 'till the band broke up. He went to work for Kitty Wells and when an opening came at WSM he got the job. He trys to get as much old time music on as he can....Dave |
Subject: RE: WSM in Nashville seems to get it!! From: Singing Referee Date: 12 Jan 10 - 10:09 AM Spent two weekends in Nashville during December when I was in the US on business from the UK. Been listening to internet radio stations ever since I got back, but somehow hadn't found this. Listen/watch The Greencards "Bury Me Beneath the Willow" video on the Video Archives, the musicianship is outstanding! |
