I've finally got round to copying my old vinyl recordings on to CD, I now want to dispose of the records themselves, many are fairly obscure especially to none folkies. For example Mary Asquith (Closing Time) Jon Strong (Night Shift) Howard Bond (Love Moves)many of these are signed by the artiste. Where can I get the best price for such albums ?

eBay is an obvious route - though you'll have to get pics of each album, advertise separately and then pay commission...

Record fairs are good - dealers and collectors will want mint condition. Signed albums always go well.

Car boots are a no-no.

Advertise in record collectors' mags and go for a private sale.

Go to s/h specialist vinyl record shops and negotiate with the owner.

Raggy - some people here might be interested in some of them.
It might be worth listing titles and performers.

Quack!
Geoff.

I had thought of that Geoff but I've no idea of the value of some, I heard tell that a copy Tickawinda's "Rosemary Lane" sold for £450 mine's signed by 4 of the 5 musicians, don't know where Clive Gregson was that night

Of course you want top dollar. But when I purge my vinyl, as much as price, I will be wanting to get them into good and appreciative hands. Perhaps "top dollar" can be modulated?? YMMV.

There's collector's folk books & vinyl. I've had no dealings with them myself, but have a sneaking feeling I first heard of them here, with (?)Dave, the proprietor being a 'catter.

Have a browse through eBay to see what's selling. Not a great deal at the moment as far as I can see.

Four years ago I sold an album on there for £647! Vashti Bunyan, 'Just Another Diamond Day', which I didn't even like. I only bought it in 1970 because I fancied her! It went to a bloke in Denmark who sent me a nice thank you message, and said he'd been looking for it for years.

Thanks for the reference Gnomad.

I no longer deal in Vinyl - to be honest it was too much trouble.

Depends whether you urgently need the space or not. If you don't then Ebay is the way forward. Otherwise dealer. And it'll take ages!!

I'd recommend you look at http://gemm.com/ as a start to get some ideas of what is selling at what prices. I have always found this a bit clunky to be honest. Then start your record off on ebay at half the lowest price you can find depending on condition. Generally speaking they need to be really good to have a chance.

As JohnnyP says some of them do go for daft prices.

And congratulations - I never got around to doing mine and sold them to a dealer (the other route).

Thanks to everyone for your help so far, I looked up Tickawinda on ebay, one sold for well over £500, glad I didn;t let that go to a dealer for £2. I'm having great fun, listening to The Death of Ase from Greig's Peer Gynt Suite as I type, beautiful music from the London Philharmonic Orchestra
