Subject: Lyr.: Mary Ellen Carter?? From: GUEST,Marian Date: 20 Sep 01 - 05:02 PM Hello! Is there anybody who knows the lyrics to a song I heard on a "Timlin&Kane" record it's called Mary Ellen Carter. The only thing I do remember is: I saw the Mary ellen Carter rise again, rise again, rise again. Like it very much. If there's someone who knows the song, please post the lyrics ! Thanks, Marian |

Subject: RE: Lyr.: Mary Ellen Carter?? From: Jeri Date: 20 Sep 01 - 07:30 PM I have a tape of Stan singing it, and I've heard Artisan do it live. Different versions, but both are excellent. In case anyone's planning on yelling at Snuffy for posting (virtually) the same link I did up there, or in case he wonders what happened, my link was broken and invisible. I fixed it after he posted his link. |
Subject: RE: Lyr.: Mary Ellen Carter?? From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 20 Sep 01 - 10:09 PM It's great to help people with their enquiries, but let's not forget to tell them how we found the information that eluded them, so that next time they can do it for themselves, without having to start another unnecessary, and permanent, thread. The best of several onsite search engines here is the "Digitrad and Forum Search" box on the main Forum page, which searches the Digital Tradition database and the Forum, oddly enough. Type mary ellen carter into it and hit "GO". That will find it. At times, a search for a title won't get results because the song has been posted here under a different name, or a different spelling; it's usually a good idea to search also for phrases from the song. The FAQ thread at the top of the Threads list on the main Forum page contains a lot of helpful information, though a lot of people don't consult it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr.: Mary Ellen Carter?? From: GUEST,Genie Date: 22 Sep 01 - 01:26 AM See also the 'parody' called "THE EENSIE-WEENSIE SPIDER," (Or Itsy Bitsy Spider). I think it's in the DT -- if not, it's in the forum. It's really the same theme, but funny at the same time. |
Subject: RE: Lyr.: Mary Ellen Carter?? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 22 Sep 01 - 02:09 PM I sang this song so much in the late-80s that I wasn't able to sing it or hear it for years. Then Artisan came to the Old Songs Fest last June (01) and sang it with such passion- I sat right behind Jeri, and could see most of the audience, which was mostly comprised of balding heads and greying hair- and scarcely a dry eye in the house. Artisan gave this song back to me, for which I'm so grateful! |
