Finally got the pictures back! (Had to finish off the roll in Wisconsin -- in a cemetery, of course.) And what with the Songs of Sail festival this past weekend, haven't had a chance to do anything other than look at them. They turned out fine and I think I captured everyone except Katherine Rhoda (who was sitting too close to me) and Tom (for the same reason). And myself, of course. (I WAS there, wasn't I?!?)

I should have time to scan them in the next few days -- how do I go about getting them posted on the Mudcat events page?

Linn

Awright! Finally got the photos scanned and sent to Pene Azul and they are now up on the Events photos list as "Shanty Sing at China Sea Trading Co., Portland, Maine's Olde Port, May 18, 2002" at (One of these days I'll find the time to learn how to do blue clicky things.)

Apologies to both Katherine Rhoda and Curmudgeon -- they were each sitting beside me and were too close for a photograph. I should have braved the rubber squid/instrument case/food & beverage container land mines and moved to the other side of the song circle to take more pictures -- maybe even catching myself in the photo at the same time -- but I didn't.

Jeri -- you're a very serious person. {grin}

So why didn't YOU take any pictures? (Like of me or Tom or Katherine . . .)

The lack of a camera had a major effect on my photo-taking. Seriously, I take a camera and spend all my time looking for good shots. I take the mini-disc recorder and spend my time recording. Just left 'em both home.

This brings back fond memories of last year. Wish I could have been there.

BG - many thanks for sharing those pics; It's a darned good thing at least ONE of us actually had FILM in our camera! {B>{*~
(*Duh!*)
I thought I had a couple of pretty good shots of you & Crumudge for a while there.... Oh well!

Who's the old coot on the banjo at the very end? };^{)~
Looks like he might be singing that old Stephen Foster saw "When the Glendy Burke Come Down". Hope ye don't mind if I use that one on me resume' - it's one of the better ones!

Next time I hope you get Brian head-on so we might see his sparkling Irish eyes and winning Irish smile; he ain't all THAT ugly, eh?

Perhaps at the next one, we can designate one of the non-singers to act as our official Photographer to record the event for posterity - and to share with fellow 'Catters all over the World.

Speaking of "next time"; just a couple of thoughts: In August the Yarmouth Historical Society is presenting a program out on Cousin's Island (Community Center) on the region's nautical history during the age of sail.
The Sons of Union Veterans has been meeting and having dinners etc. at that building during the Summer Months, and It's a cozy little joint with running water, "facilities" (which the Captain's barn lacks), and a full kitchen. I don't think the Island Association that manages it charges a whole lot for it - I'd estimate that a couple of bucks a head from our usual turnout should about cover it ... interested?
The Cousin's Island Community House is less than a mile, i'd reckon, to Madeline Point wharf, where the Casco Bay ferry picks up for Peak's Island, and nice weather might provide a very congenial outdoor jamming space nigh unto the Sea.

I have another couple of ideas as well, but will take it back to the "ME/NH Sea Songs" Thread.
Here's clues;
The royal River Park pavillion, where weekly performances are held through the Summer... and the 5th Maine Regimental hall & Museum out on Peaks' Island in Casco Bay.
Stay tuned!
