Youngest Neice reports they are looking for a folk night. Not sure if it is session/SAR or bands. Worth a try either way.

Spaniards Inn, on Hampstead Heath

Sophie says it is a haunted pub. Which just ghost to show..... I'll get my white sheet.......

Hampstead Heath eh?

Make sure you stay sitting down.

With any luck that will see me banned from the conservative party.

Driven past the place but never been in - Its a good sized place though. Might be worth the drive round London though.

It's a famous pub situated on the top road from Hampstead to Highgate, not far from Kenwood Hous, here. It's quite noticeable because with the old toll house opposite it causes a tight bottleneck in the road. Sounds like a geat place for folk music - come to think about, I used to sing there about 36 years ago !

A bit more info on the pub and its history.

Doesn't seem to mention Dave ever singing there however - unless that was way back in Dick Turpin's day?

and they've taken this long to forget and try again.

I'll stand with my back to the wall then.

The Spaniards is a great pub. Dickins set a scene there in Pickwick Papers. My father used to walk there for a Sunday lunchtime pint in summer (from Primrose Hill so you needed a pint by the time you got there). Because of its situation in the middle of the Heath, I suspect it's custom has been eroded by the laws affecting drinking and driving. It is not a natural place to walk to on a dark winter's night with a guitar under you arm. I wish it the best of luck, anyway. But living in Wiltshire now, I am not going to be able to have the pleasure of squeaking my fiddle there.

No need to walk or drive there's the 210 bus running between Brent Cross and Finsbury Park passes the door. It also passes a number of tube stations etc en route and runs until after midnight.

Used to be a fairly regular drinking haunt in my youth, when I went to School beside the Heath.
