I recently heard a phrase used on the radio (BBC R2, Jonathon Ross) which sounded like a quotation. Does anyone know if that is so, and where it came from?

"Mr xxxxx, you have delighted us long enough with your playing on the arse trombone".

German soldiers know a similar instrument: the "Arschtrompete" = butt bugle. Playing it means to fart.

There is a referance in Dante's Inferno in canto XXI to Malacorda making a trumpet of his arse by breaking wind. I suppose dante didn't invent the expression either.
