Subject: Lyr Add: SLIME LINE From: GUEST,mg Date: 09 Feb 13 - 07:35 PM SLIME LINE If you're wondering what it's like to be Cutting up the fish in the cannery The fish smell bad the noise can irritate Let me spare you the details of the cuts you tolerate When you're working on the slime line Working all night and day Working on the slime line Working for all that pay Working on the slime line Working all night and day Working on the slime line Slime line If you're a woman you're working on the line Gotta have that extra ? to have that extra time If you want a raise give it your best smile Cause equal pay for equal work is never worthwhile Chorus Complaining when you're working complaining when you're not But if you want that extra buck you gotta work a lot Your hands are aching your feet are weary too Your body needs a rest but all that you can do is keep chorus When you're not working you're waiting all the day Waiting for the fish to come swimming up the bay Waiting for the pinks the silver the chum chums Waiting for the kings and the silvers and the reds When you're Chorus |

Subject: RE: Author of 'Slimeline' From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Feb 13 - 12:32 AM Thanks for posting the lyrics, mg. It's a powerful song. I'm thinking it's more Alaska than Washington State, but I don't know of any salmon canneries in Alaska. Where are they? I wondered if Linda Allen or Jon Bartlett might know this song. I knew a woman who spent her life cleaning lobsters on Mt. Desert Island in Maine. It seemed to be a dismal way of life. I'm sure working in a salmon cannery is the same. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Author of 'Slimeline' From: mg Date: 10 Feb 13 - 01:16 AM lots of canneries in alaska.. i want to say kodiac and bristol bay but i am not sure. they are or were all over the place. |
