Hello again friends, I have here three more short tunes that I'm trying to figure out what they are? I believe they are marching tunes for soldiers. Thank you for any and all help.

First one sounds like a marching version of "The March of the Kings". I've also heard it called "March of the Three Kings" or "March of the Wise Men". It's an old Provençal tune. Georges Bizet used the melody for L'Arlésienne.

Sorry I don't recognize the other two.

Thank you, that's definitely it for the first one. I wonder what the other two are and if they are of similar origin or genre. Hopefully someone here can answer.

Tried running them through ChatGPT and got dubious results. Pretty much all the suggestions sounded nothing like your tunes. At one point it even suggested Yankee Doodle which is obviously incorrect

In my experience, ChatGPT or any AI for that matter, is completely useless for tune identification. The only real way to do it is to ask real people with actual experience. Hence posting these types of questions to places like this. Unfortunately though, based on the inactivity, it seems no one here knows what those tunes are.

I also have an account over on The Session and can try asking there. Or if you're so inclined, clueless zanfona, you can make your own account and try asking them yourself.

I'm not knowledgeable at all about marches, except for some of the Irish tunes but the second and third tunes remind me a bit of French marches. I have no real basis for that. It's just a vague feeling.

Note 99% of the time I am considered to be wrong! :-D

There was an English band called Rosbif. (Note: Click on each of the album titles for a list of tracks. Band member Alan Day used to be a member of Mudcat a couple of decades back and he very kindly sent me cassette copies of the albums because they were no longer available. Beautiful French music, mostly. (Note: The band title Rosbif derives from the comical French term for English people who are believed to eat a lot of roast beef and my favourite tune to play on my Celtic harp is the Rosbif Waltz played by Alan Day & Will Fly.

The reason I am mentioning this band is that I have a vague memory of seeing an online video of a marching group - not soldiers but everyday citizens - playing a marching tune while marching in a procession. It may have been relating to the Rosbif band, or alternatively it may have related to the Breton harp music of Alan Stivell. I really don't remember the actual tune so I don't know if it is either of the tunes being sought in this thread.

So I asked over on The Session and so far have not gotten a definitive answer. I also reached out to some buddies who spread the question to the fife and drum subreddit and the Field Music School Association's Facebook page. So far they've gotten nothing as well.

So to sum up, nearly two months later and still no closer to identifying these tunes.
