My daughter who thought she had seen the last of her eczema when she was nineteen or so has found that ,with the stress of exams, it's back. She won't use anything that isn't natural in origin and simply doesn't have time right now to deal with it. Any suggestions as to what I can find to help?

I too get eczema when stressed, the thing I have found by far the most effective for me (including medical prescriptions) is AloeVera gel - a good one from a health shop. I have not had a relapse since using this and beleive me I've been very stressed

My eldest boy had it badly on his hands as a bairn, and we tried crushed gorse, applied as a poultice. It seemd to work a whole lot better than those creams that make chaps develop udders.

Drink LOTS of water. It is the best way to keep your skin healthy.

My ex had success with mixing a cap-full of coal tar into the bottle of liquid soap he used in the shower. Aveda makes some great non-allergenic soaps, and the aloe vera gel applied topically during the day helped too.

Aloe vera leaves - open and apply the gel inside the stem to the skin. REDUCE STRESS - anything she can do to help keep anxiety down, lots of sleep, good food, laughter, friends, relaxation between studying.

Regarding the term Homeopathy. There are no molecules of the ingredients left in the sugar pills that are homeopathic treatments, they are so diluted - it's a concept that has been thoroughly debunked as a fraud, although the methods are still being promoted and people now confuse the term homeopathic with home remedies or herbal treatments. They are not the same. See this explanation.National Council Against Health Fraud

Scroll down the page to read about the origins and history of "homeopathy".

quote in part.. "Remedies are diluted to powers of ten and labeled with combinations of Arabic and Roman numerals (e.g., 3X= 1/1000, 4X= 1/10,000, 3C or 6X= 1/1,000,000, etc.). The fact that 19th-Century homeopathic remedies were dilute placebos made them preferable to the harsh concoctions being applied by the humoral practitioners.

According to the laws of chemistry, there is a limit to the dilution that can be made without losing the original substance altogether. This limit, called Avogadro's number (6.023 x 10-23) corresponds to homeopathic potencies of 12C or 24X (1 part in 1024). At this dilution there is less than a 50% chance that even one molecule of active material remains. Hahnemann himself realized that there was virtually no chance that any of the original substance remained at such high dilution, but explained it away in metaphysical terms. In addition to being contradicted by common sense, homeopathy's Law of Infinitesimals is invalidated by pharmaceutical dose-response studies."

Actually Alice, recent advances in electron microscopy have shown that, contrary to what one might suppose based on Avogadro's number, there are residual molecules in even the most extreme potencies--Regardless of what "Common Sense" might dictate Homeopathy works, and this fact alone has kept it alive despite the most ardent efforts to destroy it--It is gaining acceptance, even in the most mainstream hospitals and medical schools, because, even though there isn't a satisfactory explanation for why, it works--

Contrary to what Alice and the rabid skeptics would have you believe, homeopathy is a legitimate and recognized medical specialty, and homeopathic doctors are M.D.'s, and not debunked frauds--Homeopathy's initial acceptance began in the 19th century because, during the great cholera epidemics, those victims who were treated in homeopathic hospitals overwhelmingly survived, and those treated in mainstream hospitals did not--

Homeopathic?

That means you can read minds, but only those of people of your own sex, right?

Peter.

Goats milk is very good, both drunk and to wash the skin in. my youngest daughter had it very badly as a little one and I found it worked. Best of luck,,,,,,,,,

Thanks folks....I seem to remember buying her a cream that had a goats milk base once and that worked well.Carried that bloody pot around for years, in case we might need more, finally threw it away and look what happens!I've gone with the aloe vera gel to begin with and had some sent to her, I'll also pass along all the other good advice.Thank you.

I suffer from psoraisis on my elbows and knees ten years ago it covered my body. There are various creams of differing effectiveness (apart alternatives such as UVB or sunlight which is good) but here is some advice that works... get natural cream or whatever moisturiser you prefer (coal tar applications good but messy) then wrap in cling film! the heat generated and the fact that the cream does not get wiped off means this is a very effective delivery system -additionally on arms and legs I used slightly oversized support bandages to keep it inplace. It works for psoraisis (mine anyway) I hope it works for eczema. BTW this solution was told to me by a beautician based on cosmetic treatments (facials etc) rather than a medical. I hope this helps.
