Do not copy and paste any links to mudcat into an e mail. I did, and hadn't logged out at the time. It means that when the recipient clicks the blicky in the e mail they automaticly become you (me) on mudcat. I've had to delete all my messages in case the person in question gets nosey. The person in question isn't a 'catter and probably doesn't understand how to navigate around the site, but to be careful I've deleted all my pm's. I tried changing my password but that didn't work. It came in as the old me. Boy am I thick?

Now I know why people become 'Guests' for a while.

Could this have happened to you?

That shouldn't be possible unless they have a copy of your cookie on their machine.

Are you sure that maybe you haven't used this person's computer at some time, looged on to Mudcat and forgotton to log off after use?

What Mudcat page was the link pointing to? I agree with Mmario, it doesn't seem like that should actually happen as you describe it.

Much more likely for someone to hack your password, since resetting your cookie is so easy.   

I'm going to experiment though, you've got me curious. See if I can hack myself.

I have only been using my pc to find this out. Maybe you are right MMario, if the person in question hasn't got my cookie in their pc, they can't get into my personal stuff after all. I must experiment with another pc. Please tell me what you find.

While we're on the subject of passwords and cookies. I came back after a long absence because I had a new computer. When I tried to log in as me, I was told there was already a me, so I had to become me with a C. What should I have done to avoid having two names in the system??????

There it is, I just pasted the URL from this thread, clicked on it, and let it open my browser. (I did not log out from my other PC, like most of us, I never do.)

Deni, are you sure you hit "log in" or "reset cookie" and not "register"? If you used your login and password it should have been fine. I log in from other computers sometimes, and have no problem with my username being taken.

I send links copied from Mudcat by e mail all the time and this has never happend to me. Have no clue what is going on; I also log on (set cookie)occasionally from the Cop Shop and also send e mails from there. No probs there either. Oh Well.

It's ok, I was using my pc to test it...when using another one in an internet cafe nothing could be accessed. No probs. Thanks anyway.
