Subject: Need Name: old French song or Catholic hymn. From: Boston Bill Date: 20 Dec 98 - 01:26 AM In the 1920's in Manchester, NH my mother used to sing a French or French Canadian song or hymn with the words: "cher madam" in the lyrics. Her 80 year old brother says the same. Any hints or suggestions? Even a guess. Thanks, Boston Bill |
Subject: RE: Need Name: old French song or Catholic hymn. From: Animaterra Date: 20 Dec 98 - 06:48 AM Can you give a little more information or a few more words from the song? I may be able to find out, but it may take awhile. There are plenty o' singers of French Canadian music still around New Hampshire. |
Subject: RE: Need Name: old French song or Catholic hymn. From: Tim Jaques tjaques@netcom.ca Date: 20 Dec 98 - 01:19 PM There are no doubt many with Cher Madame in them. What was the song about? Was it by any chance quite uptempo and with the repeated words "touche touche touche touche"? |

Subject: RE: Need Name: old French song or Catholic hymn. From: Jack Hickman - Kingston, ON Date: 19 Jul 99 - 11:53 PM How About La Bastringue. It's a popular Quebecois dance tune, but one of the verses goes:
Mademoiselle, voulez-vous dancer Then there's a subsequent verse where she answers the guy, saying "Non, merci, j'ai mal de tete" (No thanks, I have a headache.) Hope it's of some help. Jack Hickman |

Subject: RE: Need Name: old French song or Catholic hymn. From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Jan 00 - 03:39 PM Hi, Bill - I finally remembered to get a message to my friend Joe, who grew up in a French-speaking Catholic parish in Maine. He can't sing worth a darn, but maybe he'll remember the song. I'll let you know what he says. -Joe Offer, posting to refresh the thread- |
Subject: RE: Need Name: old French song or Catholic hymn. From: Remi from paris Date: 09 Jan 00 - 10:25 PM The number of French songs containing "Madame" or "Chère Madame" - dear Lady - is enormous... I know a French Canadian song called "Le Rapide Blanc" which contains a line like that... But you must be more specific... |
