Traditional Singing Venues in Ireland

We have some friends who will be in Irland during April and they want to hear traditional Irish singing. They plan to travel all over the Republic (but not to Northern Ireland) so they might go anywhere to hear it.

We haven't been there since 2001 so we're probably a little out of date. Here's our list of possible venues. Can anyone add to this list or correct it? Remember, singing only - no instrumental sessions.

Co. Clare: Ennis Singers' Club, Brandon's Bar, O'Connell St., Ennis, third Wednesdays, Peadar McNamara, 065 39139

Co. Sligo: Sligo Traditional Singers' Club, Foley's Lounge, Teeling St., Sligo, first Wednesdays, Frank Finn, 071 69202

Bev & Jerry: Thanks to your previous thread I visited Jim o the Mills in March 2005, still thriving but not purely a Singers session as you know - depends who's around. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Many thanks!

I've been making a list of sessions & sings in Ireland from various sources (including here) which is now over 18 pages long. Agree it's very hard to keep this sort of info up to date but if anyone would like a copy to add to or correct please PM me with email addy.

We put Jim of the Mill's on the list because we had a great time there but there's not much chance of them actually being able to find it. The night we went there, we told the lady running our B & B where we were going and she said, "Jesus Christ, you'll never find that place." We got partial directions from about four or five people and located it before sundown. Otherwise she would have been right.

A few years ago I was on holiday in a sailing resort on the Shannon estuary. Think it was called Kenmare. Yjere is a great pub called Crotty's that had a singaround.

Kinsale is not on the Shannon Estuary - there is a Crotty's pub in Kilrush (once belonging to legendary concertinaa player Elizabeth Crotty), which is on the Shannon estuary, but haven't heard there is singing there.
There is a singing session at Doonbeg on the first Friday of the month; will find details and post them.
