Several people have asked about the chance of a session on the Friday night of the Doncaster Folk Festival.

I've just been informed that one has been organised at the Cheshire Cheese, Wheatley Hall Road. This is in walking distance of the Ukranian Club on the main road.

It is due to start at about 8pm.

I'll just put this to the top again since most people thought there was no chance of a Friday night session.

Seems a shame to set up an event in competition with the festival. There are sessions and singarounds planned for Saturday and Sunday. It would be nice for the organisers to see a good turnout at the Friday concert after all their hard work in organising the weekend.

Sorry but I don't consider it to be in competition with the festival.
I suppose what I really want to say is that the people who go into singarounds often don't bother with concerts very much, if at all -i.e. I wouldn't have been going to the concert anyway and there must be other like minded people, who would make the effort to go to a session but don't really enjoy concerts. My other 'beef' is when festival organisers send artists into SARs to perform for 20/30 mins.!! Using up good SAR time - if artists want to come into SARs they should be given the opportunity to sing the same as anyone else, even Sy Khan sat all evening until it was his turn to sing at Beverley!!!

I agree, this is not in competition to the festival. This has been arranged to support the diversity of folk. Likewise I like to play music rather than go to concerts, and was disappointed that there was not a mixed event, for singers and musicians. The mixed event is there to ensure that there is a good mix of music and songs in a completely relaxed environment. I am looking forward to it and for the Saturday as well, same place.

Of course it's in competition with the festival. I'll probably go to the session because it's free and I love to play in sessions, but otherwise I would have gone to the festival because it's nearby and there's some good people to see. I still haven't totally made my mind up...(deep thought)

Each to their own and I've got to admit that if it turns out to be solely a music session I wouldn't be staying long.
You can always make a contribution to the festival - I usually do if I haven't paid for any tickets.
Surely there's enough going on on Saturday at the festival itself, I thought this was only for the Friday evening?

The postcode gives you the wrong position in Multimap. It's on the Junction between Don Street and Church Way (Wheatley Hall Road)
