Can anyone tell me where 'Catters are meeting in Whitby? Is it usually in the Tap and Spile or in the Endeavour? And does anyone know why Strawhead don't seem to be appearing this year? I'm traumatised!! Ali

Tap & Spile, Endeavour, Middle Earth probably. Don't know why Strawhead arn't appearing and I'm sorry you are traumatised however I'm sure you will find compensation in the very full programme of events. See you there. John

Good idea! Geoff and I will be there, and I know Firm Friends will be, as we're in the same house! Should be good fun! The programme does look good John, but I'm a Strawhead fan of many years, and I look forward to seeing them in Whitby every year. Ali

Hi Alio,
Stawhead have been given a well earned rest this year. However Chris will be doing the usual 'Lunchtime Legends' gig with Alison, Clive & Nev at the Elsinor on Wednesday lunch time.
For those of you that don't know 'The Lunchtime Legends'. They are all from the 'Bothy' in Southport, Chris Harvey-Pollington on keyboards, Alison Younger in her alter ego as 'Candy Rell' on Bee Wop vocals, Nev Grundy vocals guitar & Clive Pownceby on drums. So for 2 hrs of non stop rock & roll, Wed lunch at the Elsinor.
A week later at Fylde, Strawhead will be doing their usual Fri night gig at the North Euston.
I'll be at Whitby dancing with the Southport Swords, i'm the slightly overweight, slightly balding, grey haired one with the beard!! Hey that's all of us!!!!
Cheers
Les (the only one not from Hull)

If anyone is still looking for accommodation, I think Whitby Holiday Cottages may not have let the flat in Bagdale WITH PARKING SPACE yet - if so, they haven't let us know. Phone 01947 603010. PLEASE! You know you want to go, you were just unsure about camping, and the weather, an' stuff. Pretty Please?

The above link is to the site of a new PEL/two in a bar action group called Action for Music. Leaflets funded by EFDSS, which can be printed off on this site, were distributed at Sidmouth, to great efect.

It would be great if the same distribution could be done by those attending Whitby this week and all other festivals...Please help!

Jingle and I will be doing the musical tarts bit as usual, toting our instruments round the Whitby pubs, but we do that anyway, all the summer. As our semi-permanent residence is up on Stoupe Cross, we look forward to seeing you lot there. But you can't miss us (the lady with the autoharp, and the noisy one with a mandoline[a brand new LOUD...really LOUD one]).

See you there, and look forward to meeting the American contingent. mandomad

Hope the weather bucks up! Latest reports have stretches of the coast road between Scarborough and Filey - not many miles south of Whitby - underwater at the moment:-( Well we have nearly a week for it to subside.

Cheers, looking on the sunny side and hope to see some of you there.

I did Scarborough-Whitby last night, road was pretty rotten with standing water, but passable. Pickering-Whitby road was actually closed at Pickering (or I wouldn't have gone by S'boro), I am unsure whether it's back open yet.

The town this pm is v.overcast with lots of landscape flowing down the harbour. Looking out for a quick session in the Endeavour tonight perhaps.

Familiar faces are already sprouting in increasing numbers, how long before we have a folk fortnight rather than week?

Aah, the weather sounds dodgy then - you need INDOOR ACCOMMODATION! I'm not a landlady or anything, so no commercial axe to grind. What happened was this:

For years and years we have stayed at a friend's house, plus or minus dogs according to whichever bit of the family was there. Last autumn these friends moved from Whitby. Thinking how lucky I was to find somewhere for Folk Week, and not needing to take the dog (by now only one, and son was to be at home that week) I booked a flat last October and paid up at the end of June.

Lo and behold, not two weeks later I acquired a puppy, whom you all will have chance to meet, but this meant a change of plan as I don't want to put him in kennels at such a crucial time in his socialisation (thinking in the long run he'll do better in the Tap and Spile) Ergo, plea to cottage people and - miracle of miracles, they had a place which would accept pets.

SO here I am now, with TWO properties paid for and only needing the one. And knowing how people hold onto flats, cottages etc for dear life in Folk Week, it seems greedy not to do all I can to alert everyone to this fact. Obviously it'll make my spending money as well if the unwanted accommodation is re-let. So please consider it. (Details earlier in thread)

Here's to Whitby whatever the weather!
