Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 07 Jun 00 - 06:13 PM This is great!!, the list of people interested is growing fast! Caravan rentals and campsites are not available within a 5 mile radius of the town, so I'm going to make some enquiries about letting cottages. There are a few within walking distance, and I'll let you know when I find anything out. No-one has booked at either the pub or Pippins yet, so B&B is still up for grabs. Talk to you soon, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Jun 00 - 06:17 PM I'd imagine outdoor camping might be a bit chancy that late in the year. Any chance of indoor camping in a hall or somewhere? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Eric the Viking Date: 08 Jun 00 - 02:15 PM What do you mean five miles from the town-we will be the town by the sounds of it!! Cheers. Eric |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Catlin Date: 09 Jun 00 - 06:40 PM The other problem is getting there. Is there anyone going anywhere near Sheffield/M1/Leeds and have room for two adults and a baby???? and stuff??? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Micca Date: 09 Jun 00 - 07:26 PM Bron, I have booked a room in the pub..... |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 10 Jun 00 - 04:35 PM Ah,Micca, Buff said someone had booked, that's great. I'm still working on other accommodation, there's been a lot of interest! Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Jun 00 - 03:42 AM Yo, TerriM - if Steve can't make it, can you take me instead??!! LTS |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: TerriM Date: 11 Jun 00 - 07:41 AM LIz, Steve is coming even if he has to take time off, we can give you a lift if you don't mind sharing the back seat with the LFU and two guitars....? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Catlin Date: 11 Jun 00 - 03:55 PM We need to fit in a buggy, clothes and ourselves, but if you think there is space, thanks! |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Jun 00 - 05:32 PM Keep us posted on the indoor camping possibilities. (That means a floor big enough for a sleeping bag in a building where the rain doesn't come through the roof. I am a man of fairly simple needs.) |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 12 Jun 00 - 11:25 AM OK, progress is being made! There is room behind the pub for 3 or 4 tents. Pippins have a caravan for people with sleeping bags who just need a roof and a little space. Buff is talking to the people at the Railway about the possibility of using their carpark for touring caravans. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 12 Jun 00 - 11:50 AM Wow you have been busy. I'm glad we're not the only ones bringing babies. Save us a space on the carpark! I'm getting quite excited. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Eric the Viking Date: 12 Jun 00 - 04:24 PM Is there a big floor space for the loads of us who can rough it a bit? I am hoping to come, but I may have had an operation on my hand. What is the weather generally like at that time of year there? Is a tent worthwhile? (I know- no propmises of fine weather but generally?) I shall be coming (if I manage it) from Cleckheaton all being well. One other thing will the town/village have enough grub and beer (not that I drink it often)? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,Peter T. Date: 12 Jun 00 - 04:32 PM If I start walking from Toronto today, I could be there....(splash)....rats. That water was deeper than me!! yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Catlin Date: 12 Jun 00 - 04:34 PM I'm really excited now!!!!! I can't wait to see you all :) Do we have any idea of the number of people coming yet? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 12 Jun 00 - 06:57 PM There have been almost 20 people showing an interest, and some have families, so that makes........a lot! There are three pubs here, the Black Lion where the noisy people go to watch football on the widescreen, the Goat, which is next door but one from me, where everyone looks at you when you walk in, and the Red Lion, where the gathering is to be based. It's only small, but we'll manage. The Goat has B&B, but I haven't asked them yet, because their rooms are more expensive. Food will be available at Pippins cafe, they are very reasonable, and there is a chipshop. The Red does meals as well, and we are thinking, weather permitting, of having a barbie on the Saturday night, leaving the fire hot enough to cook breakfast Sunday morning. The weather? well, we can have frost in early September, but very cold weather is not usually till after christmas. We are quite high up, and the town is surrounded by hills, which protect it a bit. TV and radio reception is lousy!! The area is beautiful in the autumn, and there are some lovely walks. The Centre for alternative Technology is 30 miles away, and if enough people want to go, I can arrange transport. There is no shortage of beer. The Red has Boddingtons and usually a guest beer. I'm really looking forward to this!!!Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Jon Freeman Date: 12 Jun 00 - 07:05 PM I'm still hoping I can make it. It is amazing to see all the different needs for accommodation. I only have me to look ater and I seem to be like McGrath in my needs - a little bit of shelter and somewhere to put a sleeping bag down suits me fine. Jon |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Jun 00 - 02:21 AM Sharing a back seat with the LFU? Pass..... I'll investigate the possibilities of coming en famile - he'll be gagging for it by then, his weekly session just died...... That's music session...... Oh you filthy lot there!! LTS |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Jun 00 - 05:11 AM Just got to check that Folkworks Darlington doesn't clash (it's usually later in the month) but if not, and the memsahib (she of the mean right hook) is in benign mood, I'm up for it. I'll try and hook up with Bill and come over the hill together. But I'm not sleeping near Eric. Those horns hurt! Bron, put me down as a ground dweller. Great idea. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Eric the Viking Date: 13 Jun 00 - 01:36 PM Messages; Peter T-don't be daft!! Wear wellies!! Llanfair-who cares about TV anyway? Skipjack-you cheeky blighter-at least I don't fart!! Ground dwelling is fine with me as well BUT we'd better ask all those Americans who are putting up with Bill if he snores-then he can definately doss down with Skipjack! Cheers. Eric. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: TerriM Date: 13 Jun 00 - 07:34 PM well, I've got a room in the Red Lion, so as the dear LFU would say " I care not for your predicament Jack, for I am in the dinghy" Actually, of course, I do but I promised him ( the LFU) that I would use that phrase before much time was up...and LO! I have :) |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,KingBrilliant Date: 14 Jun 00 - 03:01 AM I think my car is about to terminally fail its MOT. Which means I can maybe justify getting a camper van again. Which would mean we (Mark, Kris & Amoret) might be able to come - if you'll have us. Every cloud has a silver lining!! It would be really nice to meet everyone. Kris |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 14 Jun 00 - 04:22 AM Excellent, Kris, love to see you. And I don't need to worry about your accommodation!!!! Anyone else getting a camper van??? No-one has contacted Pippins so far, so there's B&B available there. I'm still waiting to hear from the railway people. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: The Shambles Date: 15 Jun 00 - 02:56 AM Are there any more non-resident UK folks interested in coming? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 15 Jun 00 - 04:25 AM That would be wonderful, wouldn't it, Shambles, but I suppose transport costs would be prohibitive, as well as the time for people who work. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 16 Jun 00 - 04:13 AM I'm wondering wether to hire the hall at the Institute (it's the village hall, i don't know why they call it that!) because the Red Lion is a small pub and it would give us more space. There's a stage, and it might encourage the locals to pop in for a listen. It is an "Arts and Crafts" peroid building, with a high, raftered ceiling. Looks good, but messes up the accoustics, sometimes. The pub is a 2 minute walk away, and you can fetch beer in. What do you think? Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Skipjack K8 Date: 16 Jun 00 - 04:26 AM What are acoustics, Bron? Are they like the bounce back off the door of the khazi, when the family has banished their struggling musician to the smallest room? Sounds a reet grand idea to me. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,skarpi at work Date: 16 Jun 00 - 08:41 AM Hallo all, tell me how much is a train fair from london to mid-Wales? How much is the room ? I have to know so I can go over the moneyside. I have to tell you UK mudcatters that we here in Iceland are holding a festival it is called Bluesky festival held in south Iceland every year 23-24 of june and I am gonna be there with my band Tamóra, there will be more bands from Iceland and Forojar Islands .So if you are wondering about what you are gonna do next year well you are welcome to join us in this festival and help us to do this festival an international one. If you are interesting about this year I got a thread going on it is called BS.Iceland Bluesky festival. I am looking for the best price on flight fair at the moment so we have to see about mid-Wales. all the best skarpi Iceland. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Skipjack K8 Date: 17 Jun 00 - 05:12 AM Skarpi, I live in the frozen north of England (not quite as frozen as Iceland!) and can't come via London, but there's 'Catters a plenty that will be coming from that direction. I'm sure one of them will collect you from Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted (McGraph?)whichever you fly into. As for accommodation, if you are prepared to rough it with a sleeping bag, there will be many others (like me) who are doing the same. It'd be grand to meet you, so I do hope you can make it. Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Jun 00 - 06:00 AM In the meantime has anybody heard anything more about the idea there'll be a Mudcat workshop in Whitby? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: sian, west wales Date: 19 Jun 00 - 06:06 AM Having skimmed the BS: Beer discussion, I'm thinking that if we're talking B-B-Q perhaps everyone should come with a four-pack of their local brew? Purely for research purposes, of course, and in the interests of trans-regional harmony (sorry, I've been reading EC documents this morning ...) Assuming that I can sort everything out to get the weekend off, I'll bring some Felinfoel. Apparently, they invented tinned beer (WWI soldiers' rations!) I've also been waiting for a reason to make Caitrin's Chocolate Chip Cookies, a recipe from a 'cat discussion some months back. Seems to make enough to feed God's army... This might be a good excuse... sian |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 20 Jun 00 - 03:11 AM Sounds good, Sian. Local beers sound even better! McGrath, I'm hoping to get to Whitby, so I'll need to know where everyone's meeting. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Jun 00 - 08:34 AM Here's a link to the thread where a workshop on the programme at Whitby was announced. I sent Graham Pirt a message enquiring if that's still one, but haven't heard back.
So if it is , that'd be the logical place for people to meeet. Otherwise I suppose lurcing into The Anchor or the Sailing Club and bellowing "Is there a Mudcat in the house?" might work. But I don't fancy doing that.
So far as Wales goes, I've every hope of being able to get there. but won't know for sure until much closer. So ideally I want to turn up with my sleeping bag, beer, and an instrument or so, and not have to camp outdoors unless there is unseasonally pleasant weather. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 20 Jun 00 - 12:32 PM Sleeping bag people are sorted. Buff, the landlady at the Red Lion is going to make space in her dining room for floor sleepers. NEXT!!!!!!! Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 22 Jun 00 - 03:17 PM Refresh, so that my son, Dave, can find it easily!!! All this Festival and gathering talk is so exciting!!!Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 Jun 00 - 04:00 PM "Buff, the landlady at the Red Lion is going to make space in her dining room for floor sleepers." Great - I think we should make a resolution that for every pint of beer we bring from elsewhere (for research and comparison purposes), we drink at least two of hers. Shouldn't be that hard to keep that one. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Micca Date: 22 Jun 00 - 06:51 PM with reference to Kevins post, I know (having very craftily asked when booking) what the cider in the Red Lion is, but what is the house beer??? Felinfoel? Brains SA or Dark? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 22 Jun 00 - 07:06 PM Boddington's, Welsh Bitter, and a guest beer. Might I suggest a referendum to select the guest beer for the gathering? We've had Brakespear(sp) and Speckled Hen recently. I'm sure there will be no problem going along with the majority vote. Hwyl, Bron, |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Skipjack K8 Date: 23 Jun 00 - 06:50 AM Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, anyone? I'll drink Jeyes fluid with bilgewater chasers when the good stuff runs out, but seeing as I have a vote, I won't waste it. Adnams, Wherry (Woodfordes) or any from the Greene King stable wouldv suit my undeniably East Anglian taste. Bron, how about a mark 2 thread, as this is your baby? Skipjack |

Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 03 Jul 00 - 03:25 PM Didn't make it to Cleckheaton, hope you had a good time. NEWS....A place has been arranged for up to 5 caravans behind the light railway station. There are power connections, and it's a nice place by the river Banwy. MORE NEWS...... The field (teeny paddock) behind the Red Lion has flat space for about 5 tents. Buff has arranged for her dogs to go into kennels for the weekend, so no problems there. The hall at the Institute is booked. Hwyl, Bron. |

I may have to take pot luck on accommodation since I am not sufficiently confident to book. Kevin, the offer of a lift still holds, if you don't mind waiting til a week or so beforehand for final confirmation. 96 (97 now) posts - quite a response, Bron.
