Subject: BS: Facebook Problems From: Ebbie Date: 10 Oct 25 - 01:00 PM I realize that many people don’t use Facebook but I’m asking for information from those who do! If I uninstall Facebook and then re-install it, what will I lose? Passwords? Contacts? Posts and threads? I’ll appreciate any suggestions or warnings from those in the know. |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Backwoodsman Date: 10 Oct 25 - 01:12 PM AFAIK, you shouldn’t ‘lose’ anything if you log out before uninstalling. After you reinstall, logging back in should get you back to where you need to be. So, make sure you have a note of your password so that you can log back in successfully. I stress, this is AFAIK, because it’s not a manœuvre I’ve ever tried! Please report back… |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Stilly River Sage Date: 10 Oct 25 - 03:21 PM Why are you uninstalling it to begin with? Is there a specific problem you are trying to solve? |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Ebbie Date: 11 Oct 25 - 06:11 AM Thanks, the both of you! Yes, I have a problem. Facebook on my desktop has recently gone bonkers; it fades in and out, keeps on what looks like buffering and will not load a second page. Even the notifications don't load. No other program has a problem. |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Stilly River Sage Date: 11 Oct 25 - 11:51 AM Facebook is acting up right now for users who have the Facebook Purity browser extensions in place to filter out ads and various features (I also have keywords I don't want to see so it prevents those posts from loading). It's all showing up at the moment, so FB seems to have changed their code and broken the extensions. |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Mr Red Date: 14 Oct 25 - 08:19 AM Have installed Fluff Buster Purity. The experiment begins. First off I can't see how to hide "Reels" even though FBP says it can. Any ideas? |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Oct 25 - 12:17 PM There will be a circle with FBP in the upper right corner of the browser. Clock on that and a box with all sorts of sorting and blocking goodies comes up. Each little arrow item on the far left (Newsfeed filters) will address different features. They don't all work perfectly, because it is a running battle between the Facebook developers changing code and the owner of this app finding fixes around those changes. Facebook is intolerable with all of the default crap they put in it. I don't need to know if someone joined a group or shared a memory, I don't want polls from FB, I don't need to know a lot of what other people are doing on their FB accounts. I hide thinks like games and apps, markeplace, suggested groups, whatever the fuck "pokes" are, and "happening now" stuff. I hide sponsored posts (ads, basically), games, stories, tag and comment suggestions (they will prepopulate the text bar for you - at some point Facebook will do all of the clicking and talking to itself and no humans need to make any choices). What I do have set is the "deleted friends alert" and the "name change alerts." Those are helpful. I have it set to show all comments, not just what FB things is "relevant." And I use the Text Filter so that people I follow can stay in my list but when they write on certain subjects they won't appear in the feed. That filter so far has: Donald Trump Elon Musk Trump Musk Supreme Court ICE RFK jr Kirk Epstein immigration Bondi and I add to it every so often. The density of the Trump World crap is too much so if I can thin it out, I do. Save and close when you finish. |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Oct 25 - 11:29 AM Facebook operates differently on the various devices. A friend found herself completely blocked for three days for some unknown reason - it doesn't tell her why on her phone. The phone is where FB has a lot of clout because you can't block ads on that app and its where some of the two-factor authentication access resides. She'll have to go onto her computer and see if there is more of an explanation. Apparently someone going through maliciously and reporting old posts can have this result. Ugg. Another reason to hate FB. FB Messenger always wants to control the text feature on phones, but I have never let it do so. It would add more functionality perhaps, but why do I want to remove the telecommunications portion over to the overlord to give them even more information about me? |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Mr Red Date: 29 Oct 25 - 03:11 PM still can't block "Reels". It is not on the list. The best it can do is provide an "x" for single click hide. They combe back when FB wants it back. |

Subject: RE: BS: Facebook Problems From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 Oct 25 - 04:12 PM Facebook goes through times when all it shows mostly suggestions, not anything I actually follow. They don't seem to understand that just because I follow one group on a particular interest I don't need to add every other related one that is out there. Stories, reels, there is a lot of eye candy they make it difficult to block even with the FBP extension. |
