Subject: CD 'sleeve notes' From: GUEST,jennifer thorp Date: 30 Sep 02 - 03:34 PM I bet there's some advice for me hidden in the archives but I'm not sure what letter to look under... is it actually possible to get the sleeve note booklets out of CD's without totally making a mess of them on those little lugs at the edge??? The fatter and more delicious the booklet, the quicker it gets knackered! Jennifer |

Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: Susanne (skw) Date: 30 Sep 02 - 05:48 PM Break the little b.....s off! Actually, you have my sympathy as I can't stand ruined booklets myself. So I try not to take them out and do it very slowly and carefully if I do. Better still, photocopy them and put them in a folder. You could even enlarge them and make them more readable that way. |
Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Sep 02 - 07:48 PM I slide my handy-dandy Imitation Swiss Army Knife between the plastic and the paper, and then it slides right out. I was going to change this thread from BS to "tech," but maybe not - it's not quite technical enough... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: JohnInKansas Date: 30 Sep 02 - 07:54 PM I'm with Joe on this one - although I'm not in the SAK fan club. I keep a CD opener (slitter) and a small palette knife handy near where I usually "unpack." If you guide the edges past all the "hookies" they come out fairly cleanly. John |
Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: Áine Date: 30 Sep 02 - 07:58 PM Ahem, since it's a 'jennifer' asking our advice here -- instead of looking for a Swiss Army knife, jenn, why don't you use a nail file? I don't know if you're a guitar player or not, but I always have a nail file handy, just in case I need to do some emergency reshaping when I sit down to play. And, depending on whether you think you'll be wanting to look at the sleeve notes quite a lot, I agree that you should photocopy them, and put them in a special place. That way, you never have to bother with the bugger more than a couple of times. All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: Noreen Date: 30 Sep 02 - 08:31 PM Aargh, Áine...assumptions! I, though also of the female type, don't have a nail file in the house, but regularly use a swiss-army-knife-equivalent for all those little jobs. Presumably men also file their nails, particularly guitar players? Do they not use nail files? Or use emery boards as I do? (Hate nail files!) :0) |
Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: Áine Date: 30 Sep 02 - 08:37 PM Well, Noreen -- My mama used to tell me not to pull out my knife unless I meant to carve sumpin' up, don't ya know *BG* It jus' weren't ladylike . . . ;-) -- Áine |
Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: Amergin Date: 01 Oct 02 - 12:59 AM i hate those bloody things too....use to take my rigger's knife out and use that...but some bastard lost it overboard in the columbia one fine afternoon....sigh...had a dashing monkey's fist on it that I made.... |
Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 01 Oct 02 - 04:43 AM Agreed, Noreen -- just thinking about nail files puts my teeth on edge! BJ |

Subject: RE: BS: CD 'sleeve notes' From: GUEST Date: 01 Oct 02 - 11:36 AM why don't you just slide the booklet out toward the hinge side of the CD cover? |
