Subject: Lyr Req: The Handyman From: jeffp Date: 04 Mar 03 - 10:04 AM Back in October 1997, Prairie Home Companion ran a parody of "Candyman," called "Handyman." My sister wrote down a few of the lyrics, but we would like to have them all if anyone knows them. Here is what we have so far: Who can fix the furnace When it's ten below? Who can fix the toilet when it starts to overflow? The Handyman can. Who can put his hands in An overflowing sink, Pull out all the garbage so the kitchen doesn't stink? The Handyman can. The Handyman is skilled, he can fix or build Anything my baby wishes. I was never that ambitious; I don't even do the dishes. Who can get the lights on When the circuits blow? Who can charge me double and I'll never even know? The Handyman can. Later in the song there's a place where he's rhymed superstitious with 57 stitches. (Wouldn't you like to know what that's about??) And one more partial verse appears on my page: Who can build a skylight, Make the pieces fit? .......just 'cause I don't want to do that ..... (stuff) (this was on the radio, remember?) If anyone can find the rest of this, I know this bunch can. Thanks in advance! jeffp |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Handyman From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 04 Mar 03 - 04:57 PM I didn't think it was. None of your words were in it. But that was the closest I could find. So far... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Handyman From: jeffp Date: 05 Mar 03 - 10:04 AM I couldn't either, Masato. I checked there and also did a Google search on lines from the parody. No joy. Oh well, maybe someone will recognise it. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Handyman From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 05 Mar 03 - 11:23 AM Any idea who the performer was? Or was it a singler performer or a group? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Handyman From: jeffp Date: 05 Mar 03 - 11:28 AM I really have no idea. My sister ran across the paper where she had written down some (most?) of the lyrics. It was dated 10/26/97 and no other indication. She remembers it was from PHC, but that's about it. The wordplay is so clever we'd really like to have the whole thing and be able to attribute it accurately. This is the sort of challenge the Mudcat is wonderful at, so I brought it here when I couldn't find it myself. I really appreciate everybody's help. jeffp |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Handyman From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 06 Mar 03 - 01:53 PM Jeffp, have you tried listening to the 4 shows from OCtober 1997? They are at that Archive site linked to above. The other thing is, they have a message forum there as well. Perhaps the date is incorrect, and someone else might remember when it was, and you can re-hear it and locate the words that way? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Handyman From: jeffp Date: 06 Mar 03 - 01:59 PM Could be worth a try. I don't have the time right now, but I'll check tomorrow. |
