Subject: RE: New site of broadside sheets (Glasgow) From: GUEST,maryrrf Date: 04 Jun 04 - 07:49 PM Hey, is it just my computer or has anybody else tried to have a listen. I get a message :This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. That was when I tried in Explorer, then I tried Netscape and just got a bunch of nonsense characters - no sounds. And I'm dying to hear the songs! |
Subject: RE: New site of broadside sheets (Glasgow) From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 04 Jun 04 - 09:02 PM IE works for me, but Netscape doesn't; I think that Glasgow haven't set the MIME types properly on their web server, so many non-Microsoft browsers don't know what sort of file it is they're supposed to be opening, and assume that they are text. You can add "helper" applications to browsers yourself, but it doesn't always work very well. Easiest thing is to copy the URL for the wma file, then open Windows Media (or any other program you have that will play the file type), go to File: Open URL; and paste in the address. Wouldn't be necessary if people texted their websites in a range of browsers, but most don't, it appears; even professionals, who really should know better. |
Subject: RE: New site of broadside sheets (Glasgow) From: Maryrrf Date: 06 Jun 04 - 07:42 PM Thanks, Malcolm, I tried that and still could't get past that "Illegal Operation" message. I'll try it from work when nobody's around. |
