Subject: Tech: permanently disable content advisor-how?
From: katlaughing

I go to Tools, Internet Options, Content, Disable, Okay and that gets rid of the stupid content advisor for a while. Then, seemingly randomly, the damn thing activates and tells me it cannot access google, etc. So I wind up doing the whole thing over. Not a major problem, but do any of you know how to get rid of it permanently? Can I remove it from my hard drive without mucking up all of the other M$junk?

Thanks!

ummmmmmmmmmmm...oh! took me a sec to realize what you meant! You mean in Internet Exploder Explorer, right? (fascinating that so many folks talk about IE as if it were the only browser and all references are automatically understood) *grin*

Sorry, I have no solution that does not involve using a different browser..

(Seems like M$ wants it THEIR way, huh?)

just opened IE for maybe the 3rd time this year and looked...maybe it's connected with the slider on the 'security' tab? Mine is not 'enabled', but then I don't use it enough to see if that ever happens to me.

There's a bunch of boxes to check in the 'advanced' tab, but I don't see any that would affect it....

hey...if you have set your Google preferences to censor content, maybe will IE monitor that and try to set it's to match?

All the main search engines have a thing to try to provide 'family' content to those who want it...*shrug*...just an idea.

SOULTION EASY!

You have a corrupted file:

1. Go to Start
2. Go to Find
3. Type in ratings.pol
4. Locate file
5. Highlight - right click - RENAME to ratings.old
6. Click APPLY and OK
7. Close Explorer
8. Re-open Explorer and change Content Tabs as you tried before

Sincerely,

Gargoyle

HAVE FUN!

When in doubt for Windows problems like this, start at annoyances.org

A really hand site to have bookmarked...

Only trouble with that suggestion from gargoyle is, is there any reason to trust him enough to take his advice?

IF kat's using profiles. I'd think changing settings in Start/Settings/Control Panel/Users might do it too. Don't have any here so I can't try it out.

Thanks, all. I don't have any profiles nor content alerts or anything else set to send out alarms. Will do some checking on the other stuff. Amergin, thanks and CH thanks for the link.

I had this problem a couple of years back, and it still recurs occasionally. Amergin put me right then, giving me the same solution Gargoyle gave you, Kat.
