Subject: Lyr Add: On the Road Again (from Canned Heat) From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Sep 23 - 12:44 AM ON THE ROAD AGAIN (as recorded by Canned Heat) Well, I'm so tired of crying But I'm out on the road again I'm on the road again Well, I'm so tired of crying But I'm out on the road again I'm on the road again I ain't got no woman Just to call my special friend You know the first time I traveled Out in the rain and snow In the rain and snow You know the first time I traveled Out in the rain and snow In the rain and snow I didn't have no payroll Not even no place to go And my dear mother left me When I was quite young When I was quite young And my dear mother left me When I was quite young When I was quite young She said "Lord, have mercy On my wicked son" Take a hint from me, mama Please don't you cry no more Don't you cry no more Take a hint from me, mama Please don't you cry no more Don't you cry no more 'Cause it's soon one morning Down the road I'm going But I ain't going down That long old lonesome road All by myself But I ain't going down That long old lonesome road All by myself I can't carry you, baby Gonna carry somebody else Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Kenneth L. Subject: RE: Lyr req: On the Road Again (Floyd Jones) From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Sep 23 - 01:16 AM I did find transcriptions of a couple of verses from Floyd Jones: “Whoaa well my mother died and left me Ohh when I was quite young, when I was quite young … Said Lord have mercy ooo, on my wicked son” “Whoaa I had to travel, whoaa in the rain and snow in the rain and snow My baby had quit me ooo (2×) Have no place to go.” These verses are from an analysis of various versions of the song from here (click) |
Subject: RE: Lyr req: On the Road Again (Floyd Jones) From: cnd Date: 02 Sep 23 - 10:01 AM Joe, I have a good start at this, but there's a spot a little over 2 minutes in that's eluding me. I am out of town at the moment, but will have to listen again with better speakers and headphones at home and will get back to you. |
Subject: RE: Lyr req: On the Road Again (Floyd Jones) From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 02 Sep 23 - 11:29 AM Al Wilson wrote or rather re wrote 'On the road again'. The record company is alleged to have taken the copyright and the song writing rights from him, and also his royalties. I'm not sure but his family were alleged to have been involved somewhere, If you read Fito de la Parra's biography 'Living the blues' it gives the details. I understand it was a series of sales, company wind ups and re-sales. The chapter entitled 'We are not a royalties company' is quite revealing. |
Subject: RE: Lyr req: On the Road Again (Floyd Jones) From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 02 Sep 23 - 11:38 AM Wilson's harmonica solo has a note that is not playable without an overblow; he re-tuned his harmonica's six hole up a half step. Wow that explains it. I think harmonicas can be purchased with the retune from the factory now. I think I saw 'Nine below Zero' use one. |
Subject: RE: Lyr req: On the Road Again (Floyd Jones) From: cnd Date: 05 Sep 23 - 08:56 AM Here's my transcription of the above. It's not exactly the same, but some of the lyrics are shared. Canned Heat, Led Zeppelin, and many, many others, stole and made popular many a blues song. There's a vinyl set from Japan off the "P-Vine Special" label (click) which has a lyrics sheet, but I've been unable to find a picture in a resolution discernable to the human eye. ON THE ROAD AGAIN (Floyd Jones) Woah, I'm tired of worrying and crying Boys, I'm out on the road again On the road again Worried about my baby Worried about my baby Don't feel like I have a friend Lord, I had to travel Woah, in the rain and snow -- in the rain and snow My baby had quit me, my baby had quit me Have no place to go Woah, take a hint from me, God Please don't cry no more -- don't cry no more Gonna be a early, long morning Walking in the old rain and snow Woah, sunny lands will be there A church bell will ring and toll -- gonna hear the church bell ring and toll My little baby My little baby Boys, she's dead and gone |
