Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Christine Collister:'Jack of all Trades' From: Bob Bolton Date: 09 Feb 03 - 06:12 PM G'day Sal, Presumably it is the Dublin song above - or the Ewan McColl re-write, used in the Radio Ballad The Travelling People. Regards, Bob Bolton |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Christine Collister:'Jack of all Trades' From: michaelr Date: 09 Feb 03 - 06:27 PM Sal -- is it the one that begins John's a Jack of all trades and he masters every one"? If so, it's called "I Specialise", written by Clive Gregson, from the album "Mischief" (Topic/Rhino, 1988). If that's the one you want, I'll type out the lyrics... tomorrow. Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Christine Collister:'Jack of all Trades' From: the lemonade lady Date: 10 Feb 03 - 05:06 AM michaelr : You've got it...it's called 'I specialise' just the song for me. Got this new folk/rock band on the go and I feel this will be a goon'n. I'd be really grateful if you could do that. Sal |

Subject: Lyr Add: I SPECIALISE (Clive Gregson) From: michaelr Date: 10 Feb 03 - 07:13 PM I've been a fan of Clive Gregson's songwriting ever since the 80s, when he was an angry New Waver with Any Trouble. Had the pleasure of seeing him twice with Christine Collister -- I was floored by the huge voice emanating from that tiny woman! Too bad that collaboration didn't last; however, he's put out some fine solo albums since, and most recently some trio work with Eddi Reader and Boo Hewerdine. Here's your song, Sal: I SPECIALISE (Clive Gregson) John's a Jack of all trades, and he masters every one He's a father to all children, and every mother's son He can finish any job before another man's begun He's a Jack of all trades, is John But I -- I specialise Any broken hearts you need I can supply I turn laughter into tears and hopes into fears When it comes to turning heads I take first prize I specialise Jack's a Will of the wisp, he'll never settle down He can turn his hand to anything as he moves from town to town One day he's a butcher or a preacher dressed in black He's a Will of the wisp, is Jack Oh but I – I specialise Is there anyone you need cut down to size I can turn your blue skies red, turn reason on its head When it comes to turning tail there's no surprise I specialise Will's a doubting Thomas, he never knows his mind Is he stupid to be clever, is he cruel to be kind Is he running on the spot or is he standing still He's a doubting Thomas, is Will Oh but I – I specialise I'm a diplomat, a master of disguise I can wear a thousand faces and haunt a million places When the lights go down I never compromise Oh and I – I specialise I'm a killer with a string of alibis I could sell you down the river, I could make the devil shiver I'm a sinner with the keys to paradise I specialise (Published by Gregsongs) Cheers, Michael |

Sal -- sorry, no speaka tab. But it's a pretty simple song that should be a breeze to figure out. PM me if you get stuck. Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Christine Collister: 'Jack of all Trades' From: Sorcha Date: 12 Feb 03 - 12:16 AM You can't change the Thread Name; what you do is change the Subject Box. When you go to Post to this thread, there will be a box that says Subject: Hightlight and delete what is already there, then put Lyr Add: (Title/Author if known) in that box. The colon is important. Then, when the harvesters go looking for Lyr Add it will show up. It is also easier when using Forum Search to find the Lyr Add: posts in a whole mess of stuff about a song. Sometimes it's hard to remember to do it. I have forgotten lots of times. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Christine Collister: 'Jack of all Trades' From: michaelr Date: 12 Feb 03 - 12:24 AM Thanks, Sorcha, I didn't know that. So it appears that's what you did above... maybe the name should be corrected from "Collier" to "Collister"? Cheers, Michael |
