Subject: Parody, thanks to Peter T. From: Jerry Friedman Date: 22 Oct 98 - 12:19 PM Since there are threads on sex songs (sort of) and parodies, it seems like a good time to take up Peter's suggestion.
Son of Broken Token
As I roved out one fine May morning,
I'm always ready in the morning,
She said, "Oh no, I loved a sailor
I felt around within my pocket,
That morn I proved my honour long, boys.
Come all fair maids, heed well my warning: Copyright 1998 by Jerry Friedman. I hereby place these lyrics in the public domain. If anyone is so tasteless as to sing them, I'd appreciate credit. |
Subject: RE: Parody, thanks to Peter T. From: Peter T. Date: 22 Oct 98 - 12:41 PM Jerry, Fine work (in all senses). It isn't often we have three new songs of such peerless quality coming from one thread. I noticed you avoided amulets. I have been thinking about this (instead of working). I suppose one of the problems with amulets is that nothing rhymes with amulet - omelette? Also, of course the problem with having the other half of the same ring is that you are likely to be brother and sister! So maybe it is best to go for someone with half of a different ring/amulet. Cuts down on the odds of your child ending up as a banker. I remember Woody Allen once wrote an update of mythical animals, and the best was a creature whose top half was a lion, and whose bottom half was a lion -- but a different lion!! Makes you think. Do you have a tune? Yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Parody, thanks to Peter T. From: Mo Date: 22 Oct 98 - 02:34 PM Amulet might almost work better as it would remind you of the girl/boy "you met" (Dodgy Rhymes Inc.)! It's a beggar to scan though... Mo (damn, I now seem locked into doggerel!). |

Subject: RE: Parody, thanks to Peter T. From: Dan Calder Date: 24 Oct 98 - 08:27 AM So maybe you should just forget... You could think of something else, I bet. Perhaps your hero's name was Rhett, Or maybe we are just all wet. Dan |

Subject: RE: Parody, thanks to Peter T. From: Peter T. Date: 25 Oct 98 - 11:44 AM Though they never fitted together seal or token Or matched up each other’s amulet, Was their love not true, and just as truly unbroken? -- Romeo Montagu, and Juliet Capulet. Just thought I'd give it a whirl -- boy, dactyls sure don't work too well in English. Yours, Peter T.
