Indeed, Dick. We had a really enjoyable time. 'Twould be good to see more folkies there, and build up a few more sessions. Come on, all of you - at present, it's all free, so make the most of it! Provisional dates for '07 are 20th - 22nd July.

Filey Folk Festival was the following weekend this year. Must have been, as one of the organisers was at Seafest!

And yes, it has clashed with Saddleworth in the past, I believe.

Clashed with Staithes weekend which was great for singers, talk about late nights it was early mornings and that doesn't happen very often these days!

sorry but i did get the impression from looking at the programme that it all concerts, with no chance for a sing.

Yes, it does look like that, by and large, but it is set up mainly to attract the holidaymakers, and funded entirely by the local council to that end. As I said, at the moment it is entirely free. However, the demand is increasing from 'folkies' and the organisers would, I think, like to go along with that, but the more punters there are demanding it, the more likelihood of an increase in those sorts of sessions.

Thats right, if singers went along and pressurised the organiser for singarounds, he would oblige. he is a folkie himself, and your presence would make it more enjoyable for us too.Dick Miles, there not hiding under the anonymity of anyones petticoats.

The singaround, as it was, was brief and in a "dry" venue. I remember the first sea fest following "Stormalong John" around the pubs, the juke box was grudgingly turned off before they performed and switched straight back on the moment they had finished. Wandering around this year, every single pub on the sea front, where the main performing Marquee was, had juke boxes blowing ones ears out, with the exception of the golden ball that happened to have in a "glee club" from Stockton on Tees who were singing barbers shop - excellent. Maybe one pub could be found to use as a venue for performing and singaround. Having said all that the performances were excellent and the weekend was great

The SEA CADETSHALL is an excellent venue , it doesnt worry me if its dry, i agree that a venue that was licensed would be good too. Iwill put stallions points to the organiser.

We rather liked the atmosphere at the Anchorage, and have pointed out to the organiser that it has a function room that might be worth investigating.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, Peter. The Leeds Arms has been used for performing and a singaround in the past, and the music appears to be welcome there, but the space available is very small, and the loos are at the far end of the space away from the bar. As Tom said on more than one occasion, 'It's just a stage they're going through!' Do let said organiser have feedback from you - and anyone else who was there. Missed the 'glee club', regrettably.

I really feel that the event has tremendous potential, but needs support from more 'folkies', and conversely, they need to be catered for.

I found the people who run the leeds arms very friendly, but I had a serious problem when I was performing on the saturday night. A woman with a weak bladder, couldnt wait to the end of my song, pushed past me to get to the ladies loo and upset my pint all over another person. the song was only three and ahalf minutes long, I know its a public house but surely they could have the courtesy to wait till the end of the song , I only had one more verse to do.
