Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: My guru always said Date: 16 Aug 10 - 01:01 PM OK, a stock of Escapade T-shirts have now been delivered to me *hurrah* (They're really quite tasteful - see photo here!) I have enough to cover those already reserved with some to spare in all sizes (small - XXL) except Medium. I could order a few more if needs be. PM me with size required if you'd like one & let me know where on Max's tour you'll be for handover. Any spares will be passed to Bill Sables (for his stall in the craft fair) but will only be available to sell on Tuesday & Wednesday as we won't arrive in Whitby till Monday evening & we leave first thing on Thursday. Any spare after that will be taken to Ash, Towersey etc, etc.... |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Soldier boy Date: 16 Aug 10 - 08:31 PM It's very difficult to see the T shirt clearly on your link Hils! |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: My guru always said Date: 17 Aug 10 - 02:14 AM Alas, that's the best I can do, not being Techie *sigh* But you'll see the real thing in about a week's time!! I bet Max is getting excited now *grin* |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: My guru always said Date: 17 Aug 10 - 02:54 PM Never one to baulk at a challenge, I've got a better picture of Richard modelling the Tshirt! You can enlarge it & see just how basic it is.... |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Betsy Date: 17 Aug 10 - 06:40 PM Selby's observation is very important. The first weekend is also the Whitby Regatta. The dates for the Festival are fairly settled , but the Regatta needs to plan according to the tide tables so it could be a little crowded. No one has mentioned the choo-choo, and singaround . Raggy tash and Ossonflags new thread required I think. Cheers Betsy |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Soldier boy Date: 17 Aug 10 - 07:44 PM Hi Betsy. What's to do about "the choo-choo, and singaround ?" Sounds good. What's been arranged? I'm pretty sure that Max might be even more interested on going on the steam train if there is also an arranged singaround (and a chance to play a spare guitar) included on the journey. As for another new thread about Max or Whitby Folk Week; me thinks that might seem rather over the top at this late stage. So if Raggytash or Ossonflags don't respond to your call why not let us know this is happening on the steam train during Whitby so we can plan accordingly and join you for a grand day out! Many thanks, Chris |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: GUEST Date: 17 Aug 10 - 09:23 PM I thank my Guru for the picture of me in the Max tee shirt. It will be too small for him though! I add that I have all my teeth not just the one in the photo :>) Hils link to the Flicker photos of our Capers at Old Keepers are brilliant though. There will be a spot the spot discussion, and will it wash out later then I think :>) Im so much looking forward to meeting Max and I hope his stay with us will not be too detrimental to his well being! Our welcome over the pond never forgotten by us especialy Barry Finn Richard |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: My guru always said Date: 18 Aug 10 - 03:17 AM Betsy, I'll just refresh the Whitby singarounds thread, perhaps you could put some info on there about the 'choo choo' if you get a chance? I'm pretty sure I saw that Ossonflags won't be coming to Whitby this year, but I could be wrong... |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Soldier boy Date: 18 Aug 10 - 03:32 AM You're right Hil, I also remember that Ossonflags said that he wouldn't be at Whitby this year. Which is a great shame 'cause I'll really miss the big fella. Get yersen to Whitby Mick lad! It wonn't be the same without ya. Chris |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Raggytash Date: 18 Aug 10 - 04:46 AM I've put a comment on the sing-a-round thread, however it is NOT a steam train |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: GUEST,Betsy Date: 18 Aug 10 - 04:55 AM Hiya Raggy , Ithought you mentioned to me last week the sinaround at the Arncliffe which would require the CHOO - CHOO RIDE !!! |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Raggytash Date: 18 Aug 10 - 10:19 AM This one goes cough splutter splutter, as it's a diesel, I believe you mean by choo choo that it is a steam train, sadly not, just the normal Whitby-Middlesbrough line, though you do get to see Beggars Bridge |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: John J Date: 18 Aug 10 - 02:31 PM What day is the train ride? I reem to recall it was on the Sunday. We've just discovered we can get to Whitby from Tuesday to Thursday. JJ |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: John J Date: 18 Aug 10 - 02:32 PM Skarpi: sorry to hear of your bad fortune. I hope it works out well for you. Best wishes, JJ |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Soldier boy Date: 18 Aug 10 - 11:14 PM So to recap folks, before you all head off on your travels to Whitby Folk Week. The 'official' and now set-in-stone "Mudgatherings" to meet Max (Founder and owner of Mudcat),have a chat and hear Max sing and play in Floorspots (and get a chance to buy an historic 'Max's Grand UK Escapade 2010' T shirt(perhaps signed by Max!) as a bonus) are: *** Mon 23 Aug, 8-11pm at Les and Maggie's session in 'The Endeavour' pub (East/Abbey side). *** Wed 25 Aug, 4pm in 'The Board Inn' (East/Abbey side near the 199 steps up to the Abbey and close to 'The Duke of York' pub) after the Whitby sratch morris side have finished their day of dancing (which apparently Max may join!) and who meet up 12-1pm in the back yard of 'The Plough' pub (West side). In between it looks like Max will be on the Esk Belle boat trip to Staithes on Tuesday(see seperate thread) and possibly a half day at the (Robin Hoods) Bay afternoon session and a trip out on the steam train etc etc. It's all to be decided by Max, so you could bump into Max almost anywhere in between the two 'official' Mudbatherings mentioned above! If you want to be able to recognise Max on his travels (as Bill Sables) suggested just click on "Quick Links" in the top right hand corner of the Mudcat home page and then click on 'Get your Mudcat T Shirt' to see Max modelling the original Mudcat T shirt. He has aged only a bit since, but not that much, so you will recognise him. I terms of the best opportunity to get to meet Max and have a chance to get to know him and chat to him in a less crowded and noisy enviroment and for Max to feel more relaxed to entertain us all, I would personnaly recommend The Board Inn at 4.00pm on the Wednesday (25 Aug)as perhaps the best venue. See you there folks and let's all have a good 'un. It's going to be something special. I can feel it in me bones! Thank you for all your very valuable contributions on this thread and look out for Max's personal diary/memoirs on Mudcat about his travels in the UK. Chris |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Herga Kitty Date: 19 Aug 10 - 01:01 PM Just thought - the reason Dick's name didn't come up on the list of season ticket buyers might be because it's Susan who buys the tickets....? Arriving in Whitby tomorrow, and really looking forward to seeing/ hearing everyone, including Max! Kitty |

Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Jack Campin Date: 20 Aug 10 - 10:58 AM Might help if I put my mobile number here, as I'll be in the same house as Max, Dick and Susan for the week, so I could relay messages if you can't get through any other way. 07800 739 557 |

Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Mrs.Duck Date: 24 Aug 10 - 10:10 AM we had a great day with max yeterday. He joined the Scratch for madness and mayhem in the Shambles while the rain poured outside. We then had a brilliant singaround in the Endeavour with Les and Maggie and plenty of 'catters. Max is now my bosom buddy :) |

Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: nutty Date: 30 Aug 10 - 07:01 AM I was in The Board for a very short while but managed to get a hug from Max and speak to Dick and Susan. Sorry I couldn't stay longer. |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: GUEST,surreysinger sans cookie Date: 30 Aug 10 - 07:33 AM Three names missing from your list, Hils ... Derby Ram, Sylvia N and Liberty Boy , all of whom were on the guest list for the festival (and all of whom were definitely there ... I can vouch for that having dined, drunk tea and played and sung with all of them during the week). |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: My guru always said Date: 30 Aug 10 - 10:41 AM Thanks nutty - you must have missed the Register but very glad you got a hug from Max!!! Thanks too Irene, I'll add those names to Max's list!! |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Les from Hull Date: 30 Aug 10 - 11:54 AM There were many more mudcatters at Whitby Folk Week than came to the gathers, probably because they had commitments elsewhere. Even one of the Endeavour landlords posts on Mudcat, but he won't tell me what name he uses. Presumably Max also met 'catters on the boat trip (raggytash and Gnomad at least). But those were the signing sheets for the two gathers. |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Herga Kitty Date: 30 Aug 10 - 03:53 PM I believe Flyingcat and Saro were at Whitby folk week (at least, CMR were booked, and I believe ran a harmony workshop), but I didn't actually manage to see them. Though I did bump into Trayton one evening, on his way to collect a Chinese takeaway meal for them... Kitty |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Surreysinger Date: 30 Aug 10 - 03:56 PM Correct Kitty - all three were there, and I bumped into them all more than once. (It was only during one of the late night sings, and at one of the ballad sessions that I discovered who Willa and Diva and Andymac were .. and a couple of weeks earlier I'd discovered who Liberty Boy was, although we had known each other for some time ... strange world this!) |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Cats Date: 30 Aug 10 - 05:05 PM can also confirm that. I introduced Saro to Max when we had afternoon tea at Elizabeth Bothams. Flying Cat was around and saw her at the Resolution |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Betsy Date: 30 Aug 10 - 06:03 PM Tig will confirm that I arrived promptly at the given time - I arrived at 3.50 pm and exchanged niceties ,but before I entered the Board she advised me that although this was the correct time to be arriving , unfortunately this was Thursday, and not the appointed day Wednesday. I seem to be writing the following phrase far too often - right place wrong time !!!!. Maybe it's a Senior thing - I've always been a punctual person. Sounds like a good time had by all . |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Leadfingers Date: 30 Aug 10 - 06:46 PM Mudcat names CAN be confusing , in 'Real' life and in Facebook ! It would save a LOT of confusion if 'Friend Requests' on F B inncluded a Mudcat handle as well. |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Tootler Date: 30 Aug 10 - 06:46 PM I was at the Endeavour on Monday evening and introduced myself briefly to Max at the end of the evening. I was on my way home at the time, though so I was just a "Hello, I'm Tootler". It was a good evening. I sang "Bonny at Morn". |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Soldier boy Date: 30 Aug 10 - 08:06 PM A very big thank you to all Mudcatters who have posted on this thread and who have met up with Max at the MudGathers, and other happenings, in Whitby. He is a really nice guy and it was a pleasure to meet him. It was also really good to put a face to so many Mudcatters and I know that you all made him feel very welcome indeed and that he really felt quite honoured and overwhelmed by the whole experience. Thank you to everyone for making Max's Whitby leg of his UK Escapade tour so very special. Chris |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: GUEST,MC Fat (at work) Date: 31 Aug 10 - 06:37 AM I was there Friday til Tuesday couldn't get to Endevour cos I was running the Station singaround. Would have been nice to meet Max glad he had a good time. |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: GUEST,old git Date: 31 Aug 10 - 09:06 AM I met Max on the Staithes Trip...as you can see from his photos. A charming man! geoff t |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Northerner Date: 31 Aug 10 - 01:35 PM I was only in Whitby for one day this year, so sadly didn't get the chance to see many Mudcat friends. I enjoyed that one day - but it was too short... |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: My guru always said Date: 31 Aug 10 - 04:37 PM Many thanks for the additions of flyingcat, trayton, Saro, MC Fat & Northerner who will be added to Max's lists. And I'll make sure you're on the Endeavour MudGather list Tootler!!! Max has been on a high since reaching the UK, meeting so many Catters and realising just how many we are in the UK. I think he's gaining an understanding of how we integrate within the UK Folk Family. I can only echo Soldier Boy with thanks to everyone who has helped to make Max's stay in Whitby such a success! |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Banjo-Flower Date: 31 Aug 10 - 06:26 PM I also had two great nights in the Elsinore Sat/Sunday but could n't stay longer so unfortunatly missed Max Gerry |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: YorkshireYankee Date: 31 Aug 10 - 07:38 PM You can add Willa to the list of 'Catters at Whitby this year (I know she was there, 'cos we were both staying at the same B&B. Would have told her about the chance to meet Max, but only learned of the meet(s) on the day). It was brilliant to meet Max -- and a bunch of other 'Catters I'd not met before, too (however briefly)... |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: gnomad Date: 01 Sep 10 - 03:22 AM Yes, you can add my name to those at the festival, I've been lucky enough to live in the town for the last few years. Met MGAS when she was tearing up Runswick Bay RB raffle tickets and battling nausea with Wombat. As I was working during roughly half the duration of the festival I just got to attend a few of the maritime sessions at the Endeavour, the boat trip, and a bit of fringe singing. Those who went on the boat trip will have met me (if only briefly) as I was the guy taking the fares, among other things. I did manage a quick chat with Max, just a chance to say thanks for this place. |
Subject: RE: Max's Whitby Folk Week MudGatherings From: Les from Hull Date: 02 Sep 10 - 08:07 AM I'm pretty certain that 'del boy' and 'MG John' were in the Endeavour on the Monday. |
