Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: GUEST,petecockermouth Date: 20 Aug 12 - 12:13 PM really, bonzo, don't tell me you're a rangers fan? when we agree on just about everything else - i'm a celtic bhoy meself. the rangers thing is curious in that the whole saga has been simultaneously very boring and very, very funny. good to see scottish fotball shaken up though, i like a bit of chaos. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: Allan Conn Date: 20 Aug 12 - 12:29 PM "don't tell me you're a rangers fan?" Well I've been a Celtic fan for nigh on 45 years and I think Rangers (the club as in staff and fans as opposed to the people who were guilty of anything)have been treated very harshly. The Third Division is obviously going to benefit - for instance Rangers had a bigger crowd than the entire Premier League had this week. I don't think the Premier League will benefit though. Hopefully someone can mount a substantial challenge because Celtic winning the league by 25 or 30 points every season isn't going to make for excitement. Also Scottish football as a whole will suffer. The coefficient for getting in to the Champions League has always been dependent on the Old Firm winning some games. Our chances of improving with only Celtic realistically having a chance of doing well is much slimmer. They obviously needed to be punished and demoted but I think down the one tier for a season with the transfer restrictions would have been punishment enough! |

Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: GUEST Date: 20 Aug 12 - 01:00 PM What about QPR? |
Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: GUEST,petecockermouth Date: 20 Aug 12 - 01:28 PM i have a feeling that celtic will have a job keeping focussed and some other clubs may get a bit of encouragement. i can't say i would be too unhappy if some one else wins the league this year (unless it's hearts) -does that make me a bad bhoy? |
Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: Allan Conn Date: 20 Aug 12 - 01:55 PM "i can't say i would be too unhappy if some one else wins the league this year" Not very likely though. Just look at the stats over the past five years. The highest placed non Old Firm team are usually some way behind the leaders. Motherwell were 31 pts behind in 2012; Hearts 30 pts in 2011; Dundee Utd 24 pts in 2010; Hearts 27 pts in 2009; and Motherwell 29 pts in 2008. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: MikeL2 Date: 20 Aug 12 - 02:33 PM Hi I think that it will make a mockery of the word "Premier" in Scottish League football. One horse races do not make for good watching. The whole affair has been a political mockery. Who the Hell wants to follow a League to watch who comes second ??? Perhaps Celtic will get their wish to move into the English Premier League and so even up the Scottish one......I don't think !!!!!! Cheers MikeL2 |
Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: Allan Conn Date: 20 Aug 12 - 03:27 PM Mike I was kind of surprised that Rangers didn't look into joining the lower tier of the English league and try to work there way up from there. Let's face it they have at least three years in the wilderness anyway bar the hoped for cup runs! They have along with Celtic previously made noises about joining the Premiership which have been dismissed by most of the English clubs but they may have looked differently at a massive club coming into their lower tiers! |
Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: Bonzo3legs Date: 20 Aug 12 - 03:34 PM I'm not a fan of any football team, I just thought it very funny that this giant football club failed financially!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Rangers top of Scottish 3rd division! From: GUEST,petecockermouth Date: 20 Aug 12 - 04:14 PM me too, bonzo - we do agree, comrade! but it wasn't just failing -they were criminal and that's why they are where they are now. (and a weird coincidence that their last 2 chief executives are Green and White) |
