I wanna do this one tomorrow night at the pub, it being my big 3-0... I check the DB but came up empty handed.. which I have to admit surprised the hell out of me! But here it is

"I had no say in being born
Or where and when it happend to me
T'was only chance that turned the wheel
And made my living easy

Chorus

Oh I Am A Lucky Man
Favoured by good fortunes hand
Far more than I'm deserving"

But those are the only lyrics I can remember... can any one help out???

Ta' Very Much Eh!

Gee, love to help Clinton, but the only "lucky Man" I know was the one by ELP back in the 70's. I guess that's not the one you mean *grin*

Clinton,

Any idea as to who wrote / performed it - there are lots of songs called Lucky Man, from Bruce Springsteen, The Verve, ELP (as mentioned) and many others.

It makes searching almost impossible without more info.

This song was written by Canadian songwriter and luthier Grit Laskin. My friend Merle Roesler from Boston sang it a couple of weeks ago in her concert set at the NEFFA festival. I'll e-mail her to see if she can provide more lyrics and source info.

Ooooh! The Verve's "Lucky Man" is a good song! "I'm a lucky man...with power in my hand..." good personal theme song! Didn't YES do a song called "Lucky Man" too?

LUCKY MAN (Grit Laskin)

F C F G7 C I had no say in being born, F C Dm7 G7 Or where or when it happened to me F C F G7 C It's only chance that turned the wheel F Dm7 G7 And made my living easy.

F Dm7 C F Dm7 G7 Oh, I am a lucky man, favored by good fortune's hand, F Dm7 G7 C Far more than I'm deserving.

F C F G7 C I've had good work since I've been young, F C Dm7 G7 Mastered a trade, my business thriving F C F G7 C Yet thousands idly bide their days, F Dm7 G7 No job means no surviving.

F C F G7 C I share a love that's fair and true, F C Dm7 G7 A marriage have I that's rich with pleasure. F C F G7 C Yet there are those whose wedding vows F Dm7 G7 Are shackles that embitter.

F C F G7 C There's some who die for want of bread, F C Dm7 G7 There's some are killed for seeking freedom F C F G7 C Yet I have more of what they crave F Dm7 G7 Than ever I'll be needing.

Well, that didn't turn out the way I wanted. The chords are good - you just gotta match them up with the lines.

Clinton, after serious reflection (Yeah, for about 0.00000001 of a second!) - I'll take the pint. A true story along the same line. Many years ago, I was having a pint in my local (Scotland) when a bunch of Young Conservatives (these are the kind of folks that Monty Python's "Upper Class Twit Of The Year" sketch was based on) wandered in with big lapel buttons which read "Kiss Me - I'm Conservative!" Well, Big Ian, the Scottish Nationalist, who had a huge, full beard, grabs one of these pretty boys in a bear hug (actually, if you put Big Ian and a bear in a line-up, you'd have dificulty deciding which was who) and gives him a big smacker full on the lips for about 20 seconds. I have never seen buttons disappear faster than I did that night. I never saw the slogan used ever again.
