I'll be working in East Kilbride for the next couple of months.
Does anybody know if there are any folk clubs or sessions in the town that I can visit?
Cheers
John.

This site may be helpful or you could give the East Kilbride arts centre a ring on 01355 261000.

In EK, you're not that far away from Glasgow (10 miles or so), where there is tons going on.

Meets every Tuesday and has different guest artists each week.

I performed at the Chapelton Inn last November and it is a great club. The venue (if it's still the same one) is a nice old fashioned pub (I think it may be the only one in town - Chapelton is not very big). I would certainly recommend a dropping by there on a Tuesday night.

If you don't want to travel outside East Kilbride on a Tuesday visit The Auldhouse Arms, Auldhouse, East Kilbride!
This is without doubt THE venue for folk music in the WHOLE of the EK area!
In residence are The Cameron Brothers (world class performers)and a plethora of their friends who are all talented players and who come along on different Tuesdays to perform as their guests.
The pub is over 200 years old and was originally a cattle drovers inn and has a history of traditional music seeping from its walls!
The Folk Night is on every Tuesday and starts at 8.30pm.
Only one note of caution!--Come early!--It's always mobbed!

The Cameron Brothers run another folk night in the town which is at the Gardenhall Inn, Gardenhall,East Kilbride, on the west side of the town. That's held on every 2nd Thursday of the month (this coming Thursday)and starts at 9.30pm.

There's also the Stonehouse Folk Club, Stonehouse, which is about 10 miles south of East Kilbride, out Strathaven way.
That's on every 2nd and 4th Friday of each month in the Thistle Tavern, Stonehouse. Starts 8pm.

Hi John! If you're a player there is a great pub session every wednesday night in the Montgomery Arms in the village EK!
It's a really informal night and everybody just has a good time playing together!
I'm a non player myself but I really enjoy listening to them!
It's a really good night so come along I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
Kicks off 8.30pm in the downstairs lounge!

We do ok during the week in East Kilbride re folk music (the Auldhouse is a fantastic night) but for some reason there's nothing on at the weekend! Which, for a place the size of EK is nothing short of criminal!
Scabby Douglas is right! Glasgow is full of it...That's where I go saturday and sunday because nobody promotes folk music here at these times in EK....but there's loads of folk music being promoted in Glasgow! Check out the gig guide.
