I think the whole xbox thing is going really crazy. back in my day we only had atari. and now we have xbox 360 with way better graphics i think its getting to a point where kids are getting to lazy now and obesity rates are getting up. Let's get our kids to get outside and away from the tv!!

Hunting, fishing, camping, sailing, rowing, or playing video games? hmmmm most kids would rather just hang at the mall or play games.

We unplugged the cable about two years ago and have been in great shape.. My 10 year old son dose have a game system or (three!) but has use of it only if all other obligations are done and only an hour a day .. The cool thing is how much he has learned from the games booklets which he pours over before trying the game .

People had the same complaints when the printing press was first invented.

Sorry hit the wrong thing again . My 14 year old daughter listens to books on tape as a recreation besides a ton of books . She and I are about to go for a walk before going to see the new Pride and Preduduse (sp?).
The old thing of making the kids go out and play is an interesting concept that is worth revisiting .. I guess in some nieboughoods thats not an easy option any more.. Out in Litchfield county its still easy to send the kids out .. We have a trampoline for the younger one as well .. All the best , guy

Kids will always do what kids want to do.    Outdoor recreation is important, but I think people tend overdramtize the roles video games and television have made in their lives.   I honestly think the reports of obesity are exaggerated. I drop my son off at elementary school each morning and I see normal, healthy children running around. Of course there are a few children who are overweight, but I don't think it is worse than when I went to that very school.

Lazy?   Have you been to school recently? My fourth grader has about 1 1/2 hours of homework each night. Add to that other obligations that kids have (sport, after school music or art classes, nature center or library activities, etc.) and I think they deserve an hour or two in front of the TV to unwind.

I can't think of ever having met a real live "couch potato". I believe most people use these devices with realistic moderation.   Sure there are going to be those that abuse anything, but overall I don't think it is an epidemic.   Besides, you can learn quite a bit from TV and games.

I think we have more scientists and research than ever before. I wonder how the data is gathered and how they base their studies on the past.

"I honestly think the reports of obesity are exaggerated."

Then you need to see "Supersize Me", and "Jamie Olivers School Lunches"... Kids who eat so much junk food that they don't crap for 3 months??!?!?! I don't blame video games for that

Clinton, I know that those kids exist, but what I am trying to say is that they do not represent the majority of kids AND they are not a new phenomenon.   It may be that we are more affluent and food is prevelant, but obesity is not a new occurance.

It's not new, but it sure is growing (pardon the pun)

There are more fat ugly white people now than there have ever been

Not if Clinton IS fat, ugly and white. Then it's only self-derisive humour, which is still allowed in moderation.

Honestly, I like PC games, because you can do things with the games. Modify bits, add in new stuff and make it yours in a way you just can't on a console. I'm still hankering for an xbox and Jade Empire though... I just hope they bring it to PC at some point.

Wall St Journal says XBox 360 works OK. But--it's expensive for what you get. If you want to play your older games, you HAVE to get the most expensive version--compatibility issues. And Sony and Nintendo will be coming out with their new machines next year--who knows--maybe they'll all have a price war.

Going by this report, it appears the boxes are at least "Microsoft compliant".
