We tried contacting a commune, in a big country house near Cheltenham ( forgotten the name, senior moment !! ) , where they have a Real Ale festival, and where Anahata has played, but their camping-field is absolutely full with sheepen, at the moment !! There must be SOMEWHERE just crying out for us all to go there !!

I have spoken ,just now,with someone at the "Plough" , at Long Wittenham, near Abingdon, and have been asked to 'phone back for a discussion with the landlord tomorrow morning. There is a GLIMMER of hope, because they have given up camping PER SE, therefore the site is EMPTY at present---watch this space !!

Dear MGAS---- Annie and I were going to go to Crediton, but Annie is Quite poorly with Bronchiectasis ( Through inhaling Diesel fumes ), so wasn"t up to it. We are friends of Bill and Joan McKinnon, and regularly see them ( This last Tuesday, in fact ) at the Cross Keys in Wallingford. I was one of the 4 "chefs" at Miskin last year, --have been four or five years now.....Always wear a garish stripey jersey----I"m on first page (twice) of last year"s photos !! Always running around with bags of coal or logs for the fires !! You know me, I bet you do !! Been going to Sidmouth ,on and off,since 1965 !!

Poor Annie----her daily life revolves around pain-killers, inhalers, and anti-biotics.She loves coming to folk-clubs, festivals & sessions with me, in fact she loves to sing, BUT--if somebody starts coughing & sneezing, or smoking, then we have to leave !! It"s a horrible condition-----2 years ago, she ended up in intensive care in a cystic fibrosis unit ! But she is soldiering on !!

Update on the "Plough" in Long Wittenham---
    I have spoken with the landlord this morning ( 0915) and he is very sympathetic . He has pointed out that normally, he would need several weeks in order to "set up " a weekend function, particularly where the possibility of more than two people playing and / or singing is involved ( !! )------it would be impossible for any pub, anywhere, to do something along the lines of what we might want,in such a short space of time, because of the bureaucracy involved . I guess I knew that anyway, as my Annie ,up until last year, worked at the British Institute of Inn-keeping !!! HOWEVER--- This landlord has been at the PLOUGH for 15 years, has a good relationship with his neighbours re- music, has a folk-club in the pub every week, and runs a folk-festival on the site every June !! Therefore, he is going to have a word with one of the licensing blokes later on today, as he is a regular at said pub !! So I shall sit here biting my nails for the next few hours, by the 'phone !!!

But not THIS Easter--- The landlord has 'phoned back, and the Beaurocrats have triumphed again !! Apart from the hassle with the music licence ( which is horrendous ! ) , the pub would HAVE to lay on chemical toilets, even though it is, being a campsite, already equipped with a chemical toilet-waste disposal point !! Bloody Jobsworths !!

For info only. Tarrantella, who would have been your ceilidh band at Miskin, will be having an informal session during the afternoon of Good Friday as a nod to Miskin.
Anyone is welcome but it is only an afternoon session. There is no camping or accomodation etc.

I think we will probably stay home this Easter. The "Gazebo Mob" is having their own do but it can only be for a few cos of the probs of licensing. Some people are going to other already organized events. Whatever is arranged we won't get everyone together. I'll just have a quiet Easter at home looking forward to next year

It's at Bridestowe on Dartmoor. 11,12,13 May. Very laid back. No guests, no concerts, no prima donnas just a weekend of people who want to sing. Held in the skittle alley of the pub with an Irish landlord who knows how to keep his beer. It's our 10th so we are having cake too.

While I'm chatting, hows this for a thought.
There seem to be several small gatherings planned due to the TEMPORARY loss of service in the Miskin department. How about we agree on a time during the weekend when we can all share a "Miskin Moment" wherever we are. My starting bid is 9-30 Sunday evening, we should all be in a pub or session or similar about then. I will have difficulty not thinking about you all for the entire weekend but you know what I mean.

Just a thought - does the temporary loss of service at Miskin have repercussions to the programme at Llantrisant Folk Club? How about your Showcase, Hils? We've been looking forward to that one!

Am really looking forward to crossing the border, even if it is a short visit this year. Unfortunately won't be able to get to Newport on the Thursday to hear Vicki & Trefor, lots to do back at the Cottage *grin*

Life is chaos here at the moment, but have got lots of lovely songs dusted off & ready to sing out. Not sure what type of songs the Folks at Llantrisant would prefer, but have a goodly selection of story-songs, ballads, sad songs, funny songs and rousing choruses. Let me know if you'd like a particular song & I'll trawl my memory for it!

My buddy drives a miniature steam train and he's asked her to be a guard on Easter Saturday and she's accepted

Her Da' was a railwayman and she's aalwez had a tender behind!!

We're prob'ly ganna meet up with The Barden and The Lovely Jan as they celebrate 29 years wed on Easter Sunday.

Our actual Silver (on Friday) will probably be us gannin' oot for a meal with friends.
