Will phone Parkend & chat with a few other people over the next few hours & report back here. Pauline, thanks for checking with the 3 Magpies, sadly I get the feeling we're not going to get lucky with this. BUt lets not give up hope yet! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 25 Mar 07 - 02:31 PM We tried contacting a commune, in a big country house near Cheltenham ( forgotten the name, senior moment !! ) , where they have a Real Ale festival, and where Anahata has played, but their camping-field is absolutely full with sheepen, at the moment !! There must be SOMEWHERE just crying out for us all to go there !! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 25 Mar 07 - 02:44 PM I have spoken ,just now, with someone at the "Plough" , at Long Wittenham, near Abingdon, and have been asked to 'phone back for a discussion with the landlord tomorrow morning. There is a GLIMMER of hope, because they have given up camping PER SE, therefore the site is EMPTY at present---watch this space !! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Richard Atkins Date: 25 Mar 07 - 03:21 PM Sorry, logged in under Richard, but it's me, MGAS. Have checked the Forest of Dean possibility and I'm afraid that's a no-go, already totally full in pub & bunkhouse till Easter Monday. Must admit I'm beginning to think of alternatives for us personally unless anyone comes up with a good'un! Thanks for all your help with this bubblyrat - do I know you? Where were you at Crediton?? Hil |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 25 Mar 07 - 04:28 PM Dear MGAS---- Annie and I were going to go to Crediton, but Annie is Quite poorly with Bronchiectasis ( Through inhaling Diesel fumes ), so wasn"t up to it. We are friends of Bill and Joan McKinnon, and regularly see them ( This last Tuesday, in fact ) at the Cross Keys in Wallingford. I was one of the 4 "chefs" at Miskin last year, --have been four or five years now.....Always wear a garish stripey jersey----I"m on first page (twice) of last year"s photos !! Always running around with bags of coal or logs for the fires !! You know me, I bet you do !! Been going to Sidmouth ,on and off, since 1965 !! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Geordie-Peorgie Date: 25 Mar 07 - 05:56 PM Yo! Bubblyrat! Give Annie my best - Me da' had bronchiectasis in the late 50's from workin' as a blacksmith in the shipyards (and smoking 40 tabs a day for aboot 50 years) |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 26 Mar 07 - 04:40 AM Hi there Geordie-Peorgie !! Thanks for the message----I"ll tell her in a minute !! Poor Annie----her daily life revolves around pain-killers, inhalers, and anti-biotics.She loves coming to folk-clubs, festivals & sessions with me, in fact she loves to sing, BUT--if somebody starts coughing & sneezing, or smoking, then we have to leave !! It"s a horrible condition-----2 years ago, she ended up in intensive care in a cystic fibrosis unit ! But she is soldiering on !! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 26 Mar 07 - 04:56 AM Update on the "Plough" in Long Wittenham--- I have spoken with the landlord this morning ( 0915) and he is very sympathetic . He has pointed out that normally, he would need several weeks in order to "set up " a weekend function, particularly where the possibility of more than two people playing and / or singing is involved ( !! )------it would be impossible for any pub, anywhere, to do something along the lines of what we might want,in such a short space of time, because of the bureaucracy involved . I guess I knew that anyway, as my Annie ,up until last year, worked at the British Institute of Inn-keeping !!! HOWEVER--- This landlord has been at the PLOUGH for 15 years, has a good relationship with his neighbours re- music, has a folk-club in the pub every week, and runs a folk-festival on the site every June !! Therefore, he is going to have a word with one of the licensing blokes later on today, as he is a regular at said pub !! So I shall sit here biting my nails for the next few hours, by the 'phone !!! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Scooby Doo Date: 26 Mar 07 - 05:13 AM Good Luck Bubblyrat i am impressed what your all doing to still be together for Easter.Least you got a year of kitchen duties. Scooby |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Mar 07 - 05:14 AM I don't understand this. Either he needs to give a TEN in which case I am sure the amount of notice is in statute or regulation and probably we are too late, or he doesn't, in which case we are OK..... |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 26 Mar 07 - 06:35 AM I don"t understand either, Richard, but we are talking about Easter, when, traditionally, miracles have been known to happen, so who knows ?? |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 26 Mar 07 - 07:14 AM But not THIS Easter--- The landlord has 'phoned back, and the Beaurocrats have triumphed again !! Apart from the hassle with the music licence ( which is horrendous ! ) , the pub would HAVE to lay on chemical toilets, even though it is, being a campsite, already equipped with a chemical toilet-waste disposal point !! Bloody Jobsworths !! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: bubblyrat Date: 26 Mar 07 - 07:20 AM A Beaurocrat ?? What the hell is that ?? A jobsworth Dandy ?? I meant Bureaucrats ( I think !! ) |

Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: GUEST,vectis at work Date: 26 Mar 07 - 07:55 AM I am certain that if everyone that came chipped in to pay for the toilets it would only cost each of us a fiver or less. I would be willing to pay even though I am lucky enough to have a caravan with its own loo. |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Mar 07 - 08:13 AM Oh, I'd assumed that that was already considered and ruled out for some reason...... |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Fidjit Date: 26 Mar 07 - 08:20 AM Well I'm getting over my brochal attack. Thanks for all the kind regards. Looks like you're all at a loss for the Easter weekend. Thought Skipy might have had the place for you. A Rugby Club. Now you must be allowed to sing in a Rugby Club surely?? What will I be doing? Well the golf season is just around the corner. So I guess I'll be swinging a 7 iron and such. Walking in the sunshine and generally enjoying my health. Enjoy your Easter everyone. Chas |

Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Andy Jackson Date: 26 Mar 07 - 11:14 AM Now you are all watching carefully can you give us a hand? We need to contact Liz Crow and Fred Holpin. Our infallible booking system fallibled at a rather crucial moment and we can't find their respective addresses. If anyone knows them just ask them to drop us a line or email or carrier folkie or summat. Ta. And most importantly make sure that they know that Miskin is not the place for fun this Easter. Andy (anybody want a burger?) |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: MBSLynne Date: 26 Mar 07 - 02:45 PM I think we will probably stay home this Easter. The "Gazebo Mob" is having their own do but it can only be for a few cos of the probs of licensing. Some people are going to other already organized events. Whatever is arranged we won't get everyone together. I'll just have a quiet Easter at home looking forward to next year Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Sue the Borderer Date: 26 Mar 07 - 05:31 PM Several people have already responded to Andy with Liz Crow's details - and I'd already told her the sad news last Thursday - so no need to reply again! Sue |

Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: GUEST,Cats Date: 27 Mar 07 - 04:04 AM I know it's no consolation but you are all very welcome to the Fox and Hounds in May. Just singers singing for a weekend with a Mudgather on the top of the Tor at the back on Sunday morning. We could have a 'not the Miskin' sing? |

Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: GUEST,Cats Date: 27 Mar 07 - 05:54 AM It's at Bridestowe on Dartmoor. 11,12,13 May. Very laid back. No guests, no concerts, no prima donnas just a weekend of people who want to sing. Held in the skittle alley of the pub with an Irish landlord who knows how to keep his beer. It's our 10th so we are having cake too. |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: MBSLynne Date: 27 Mar 07 - 07:18 AM Been wanting to get there for a couple of years Cats, but something else always prevents. I'd already thought that it would be good this year with no Miskin. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Andy Jackson Date: 27 Mar 07 - 07:23 AM Oh Lynne, what a brilliant thought, you and yours would love the Fox and Hounds. Start planning now cos it's a fair old trip.from up there where it snows all the time. Tee Hee Andy |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Andy Jackson Date: 27 Mar 07 - 07:27 AM While I'm chatting, hows this for a thought. There seem to be several small gatherings planned due to the TEMPORARY loss of service in the Miskin department. How about we agree on a time during the weekend when we can all share a "Miskin Moment" wherever we are. My starting bid is 9-30 Sunday evening, we should all be in a pub or session or similar about then. I will have difficulty not thinking about you all for the entire weekend but you know what I mean. Andy |

Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Mick Tems Date: 27 Mar 07 - 09:30 AM A very belated hugs and support to Andy and Jillie. You know we can't be there because of the Ireland dance trip, but we'll remember you at a Miskin Moment - 9.30pm on Sunday evening it is, whether we will be in Schull, Ballydehob or even dear old Skibbereen. Just a thought - does the temporary loss of service at Miskin have repercussions to the programme at Llantrisant Folk Club? How about your Showcase, Hils? We've been looking forward to that one! |
Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: Andy Jackson Date: 27 Mar 07 - 09:38 AM I thnk I can answer for Hils here to put Dr Price out of his torment. Hils showcase goes ahead as planned. See you there. Andy |

Subject: RE: Instead of Miskin 2007? From: My guru always said Date: 27 Mar 07 - 10:25 AM Thanks for asking Mick & thanks too for replying Andy! Yes, will be at Llantrisant for Dame Patti's birthday celebrations! Am really looking forward to crossing the border, even if it is a short visit this year. Unfortunately won't be able to get to Newport on the Thursday to hear Vicki & Trefor, lots to do back at the Cottage *grin* Life is chaos here at the moment, but have got lots of lovely songs dusted off & ready to sing out. Not sure what type of songs the Folks at Llantrisant would prefer, but have a goodly selection of story-songs, ballads, sad songs, funny songs and rousing choruses. Let me know if you'd like a particular song & I'll trawl my memory for it! |
