Subject: RE: Lyr Req: time to remember From: ClaireBear Date: 15 Oct 07 - 07:25 PM I found a mention of the song in a church newsletter. But at least it includes the aurthor's name, so perhaps someone else who is familiar with the name can take it from here: From this page of a San Diego, CA (I presume) church's newsletter: "One of my favorite songs in Liam Lawton's collection is the song he wrote for a Memorial Service after 9/11. It begins 'There's a time to remember, a time to recall…' That song seems to complement the famous list in Ecclesiastes 3 which begins, 'there is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under heaven, a time for giving birth, a time for dying, a time for planting, a time for uprooting…' Yet Ecclesiastes does not mention a time for remembering. It is strange, to say the least, that the wise Qoheleth overlooked such a kernel of wisdom when compiling his list. Did he, perhaps, just intend to intone the litany, leaving the completion of it to each on of us? I like to think so." |

Subject: Lyr Add: THERE IS A PLACE (Liam Lawton) From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Oct 07 - 08:37 AM Found at Google Book Search, in The Book of Love: A Treasury Inspired by the Greatest of Virtues [edited] by Andrew M. Greeley, Mary Greeley Durkin, 2005. THERE IS A PLACE Liam Lawton There's a time for remembering, a time to recall The trials and the triumphs, the fears and the falls. There's a time to be grateful for the moments so blest: The jewels of our memory where love is our guest. There is gold that is gleaming in a past we once knew: In our tears and our laughter, 'twas love brought us through. There's a road we have travelled where sunlight has kissed, That carries us onwards when loved ones are missed. CHORUS: There is treasure in our fields. There is treasure in our skies. There is treasure in our dreaming from the soul to the eye; For wherever we gather in the light of God's grace, And for all whom we remember, there will ever be a place. There's a promise of God that is written in the stars For all who may travel, no matter how far. God will be your companion, each journey you make In the shadow of loved ones, to lighten your way. In the quiet of the evening, at the close of the day, We will rest on the journey. To the Lord we shall pray. May we thank God for blessings, for the moments we've shared. As we seek for tomorrow, close by us you'll stay. from Joe Offer: official recording has this for the last line of the last verse:

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: There Is a Place (Liam Lawton) From: GUEST,Guest Date: 07 Apr 16 - 09:59 PM I am a former RC pastoral director of liturgical music and have actually sang with a choir this song with Father Lawton. I am seeing all over the internet the last line of the fourth verse transposed incorrectly. When I sang it with Father Lawton and each time I have sang it the lyrics are: "As we seek for tomorrow, our God will be there." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: There Is a Place (Liam Lawton) From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Apr 16 - 01:43 AM Thanks for that correction. I've added it to Jim Dixon's post above. Jim got the lyrics from an Andrew Greeley book. I'm surprised Fr. Greeley got the words wrong. I listened to the song on Liam Lawton's In the Quiet album, and the last line is as you say, "our God will be there." It's a female vocalist singing the song. I wonder who she is. -Joe Offer, Mudcat Music Editor- |
