Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: Mbo Date: 25 Sep 00 - 03:47 PM Cry of an infant - heartbeat of the world Storm against Ship - heartbeat of the world Heel against floor and wave upon shore - heartbeat of the world Sigh of a lover - heartbeat of the world Cry of a mother - heartbeat of the world Oh, unstopped Heartbeat of the world Thanks, Amos, I needed that. Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Sep 00 - 04:49 PM Music without love is neither music nor humanity's voice, nor heartbeat, nor has spirit worth regard. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: Morticia Date: 25 Sep 00 - 06:48 PM Sorry Praise but I don't believe that......many people don't or can't experience love but music is still a meaningful medium, creative spirit burns bright and their sadness, loneliness, disability or whatever is their particular barrier against the world can be turned into music as poewerful and as beautiful as any other. Maybe music is the great leveller between those who have and those who have not..... |
Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Sep 00 - 07:56 PM Morty, I do not agree that some do not experience love. If there is heart and power like you describe in it, there is love too. Sometimes, even when it is strongest, it isn't easy to see. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: khandu Date: 25 Sep 00 - 08:31 PM Music which issues from the Heart is Music with a capital M. No matter how adept one is at playing his instrument; no matter how developed his "technique", it is mechanical noise if it does not "move" the listener in some manner. I prefer a piece played unskillfully, but with passion, than the most masterful technical performance which lacks emotion. Of course, the skillful expression of one's heart on any instrument is best. But, I have wondered, what is it that I actually hear in an impassioned performance that moves me. Without seeing, or even without knowing anything about the performer, I can tell if it is from the heart. Why is this? khandu |

Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Sep 00 - 09:59 PM khandu, What do you think it is that you are discerning? Or perhaps it is enough that you have that discernment, and trust it. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: CarolC Date: 25 Sep 00 - 10:57 PM Morticia, for the people you describe, the love is in the music. Thanks, Amos. Beautiful thread, beautifully begun. I needed that. Carol |

Subject: RE: The Spirit of Music From: GUEST,smiley Date: 26 Sep 00 - 08:57 PM The spirit of the individual is the spirit of the music. It is a reflection of the inner person when created and of another's inner person when it is listened to. smiley |
