My mother remembers harmonizing with her sister to this song. She has requested we sing it with her and we need the lyrics. Thanks. Penny R.

Riley Puckett also recorded it in 1939. Evidently, it was a hit song in 1925. You will find some lyrics here:

Tie Me to Your Apron Strings Again
(Music, Larry Shay. Lyrics, Joe Goodwin, 1925)

Like a kid who stays away from school,
I left to roam, played hooky from Home Sweet Home.
I've been like most any fool,
Who goes away to stay, that's why I say:

(Chorus:) Tie me to your apron strings again.
I know there's room for me
Upon your knee.
Bring back all those happy hours when
You kissed my tears away,
From day to day.
I thought that I was right,
But I was wrong.
Please take me back tonight,
Where I belong
Sing a cradle song to me and then
Won't you tie me to your apron strings again?

(Repeat)

At this web site called Parlor Songs you can see the original sheet music cover and download the complete score.

Here's Eddy's version - only the 2 verses with
one repeated - lyrics same as posted above

TIE ME TO YOUR APRON STRINGS AGAIN
Recorded by: Eddy Arnold

Tie me to your apron strings again
I know there's room for me upon your knee
Bring back all those happy hours when
You kissed my tears away From day to day

I thought that I was right but I was wrong
Please take me back tonight where I belong
Sing a cradle song to me and then
Won't you tie me to your apron strings again

(Repeat 2nd verse)

If you do it in "C", try this combo;

C F C G C F C G C

in th weird part try Am Em C F D7th G C F C G C

You can of course use some 7th, such as between the C and F and G 7th between the G and the C

I'm sure there are more complicated ways to do this, stuff it full of "uptown" chords, but, I'm just plain folks.

Eddy Arnold's and Michael Parks's recordings of this song are at The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites (REQUESTS PAGE FOUR, and REQUESTS PAGE THREE respectively).

Subject: Chord Req: Tie Me to Your Apron Strings
From: GUEST,Sing.out/Penny
Date: 28 Jun 03 - 06:57 PM

My mom, who is now confusing me with her long-deceased sister, wants me to sing "Tie Me to Your Apron Strings" with her as they used to sing it when they were doing the dishes. It's from 1925. I have the lyrics and she may remember the tune. Can anyone give me the chords?

Thanks so much. Penny
