Been up all night drinking Tullamore Dew and raping Napster... got only this to say...

The world needs more bands like Farilport Convention and Steeley Span!

Any suggestions??

Well, I guess if I was up all night drinking Tullamore Dew I would have added Silly Blitzard and The Frothy Band. *BG*

Clinton Hammond,

A few years ago, my son gave me a tape of a band out of the Washington DC area called "The New St. George" (I'm pretty sure that's what they were called). They reminded me a lot of Steeleye Span. (Hoping that's the correct spelling...haven't been drinking, honest.)

Carol

I think I would ask why?

Those bands produced the music they did because of the time, which was late 1960s early 1970s. They have taken that particular style about as far as it will go.

Later musicians being inspired by this, will not be able to produce music with this same 'freshness'. so there is not much point in trying.

They will however be able to take that influence and move it on, as many fine young bands have done and are doing.

Clint ol' boy. Lunasa is my current fave. Bass player is ex-Waterboys I think. My wife says she had the whole band in her kitchen last summer, though I think she's trying to make me jealous or something. I've got two absolutely stellar cd's. Check 'em out. That's Lunasa. Mooh.

Clint - well one thing is clear. You've got excellent taste in whiskey.

Kate Rusby's first solo CD Hourglass. Not a full band, but wonderful fiddle, guitar, and flute accompaniment to her singing, and like the pioneering work of Fairport C. and Steeleye Salmon...er, Steeleye Spam....no...well, anyeway, like those bands, she mixes traditional songs with modern arrangements, while still remaining true to traditional sensibilities. My guess is you probably know her work, but just in case not, definitely get that CD. Rusby is just flat-out great!
