The conical hat was only popular in France for a few years, but it has become the visual symbol for anything mediaeval.... it is more popular now than when it was first worn! It's an extension of the 'flower pot' type seen in Britain during that same period (late mediaeval - 1300's). I prefer the earlier end, 1100's, where the headdresses were basically large squares of linen wrapped around the head in whatever manner you liked that would stay on and keep your head covered. As for the dress, it's the only dress I ever wear now, but somehow I don't think the Inland Revenue is ready for that, so I will continue to wear my trousers.

Strange this effect that Hazel has on people's lives....

I think personal messages are better for information like that. I know people often put their own info on their own sites, but I'm not sure about third parties passing it on in open forums. Maybe I'm being over cautious? I don't know.

I appreciate your point Greg, but I would take the view that in this case, yes you are perhaps being over cautious.

Ms Absalon's information is freely available all over the Net, and no doubt in her local phone book as well, so I doubt she has any problems with it being posted here.

I disagree. I've just had a think about this, I dont want to be paranoid or security mad. I justthought about it in relation to myself. My telephone number, and quite possibly my address,is findable by anyone without much ingenuity. All the same, if someone posted a message to this or any other forum saying "How can I find Greg Stephens" I really wouldnt be best pleased if someone put my address and phone number on an open thread. I would say offering ablue clickie to someone's website is OK, their address and phone number is a step too far. Thismay seem completely illogical, if their phone number is available on their website,but that's how I personally feel.

Well, we will just have to agree to disagree on this one Greg. It wouldn't worry me in the slightest if anybody posted my address and phone number on an "open" thread. (or a "closed" thread either for that matter ). I have nothing to hide and have no fear of anybody.

It may be totally fine in an individual case, but I think to avoid people making complicated decisions every time, it's better to have a general guideline "dont put addresses, email addresses or phone numbers of third parties on open threads".

Greg has a major point and in addition I think that more caution must be taken when publishing Females' address telephone number etc. There are just too many nutters out there. If she wants to do it then thats her lookout.
