It's Ron Sexsmith, of course (depending on how you define folksinger). Oh yeah, and Ry Cooder. And Chris Smither. And Jeff Davis (but definitely not Jeff Warner - sorry.)

Yea, I heard Jeff Davis looked really cute dressed up as a ladies maid when trying to outrun Union forces after the Civil War!

Mbo (prompted by jealousy at his exclusion from the list or perhaps in some unknown solidarity with Jeff Warner) felt it necessary to impress with his historical knowledge of the civil war and Jefferson Davis, not the excellent and sexy Jeff davis to which I referred in my posting. So there.

I think the sexiest folk singer to me is local and is unkown - I used to really fancy her. So I vote for Anwen Donovan. She also has a superb voice and is an excellent anglo concertina player. I often wonder why she never became a "name" as IMO, she has more than enough musical tallent for that.

Dunbar Flamingo: He may not be your type, but I have seen women drooling and draping themselves over J.Warner as recently as this summer (he's not my type either). As for J.Davis, **SIGH** ;-) Women seem to be attracted to either one or the other; it was so nice when they were performing together. Besides the fabulous musical and historical content of course...

Mbo: It's nothing personal, darling. I happen to have very handsome brothers, so it was not my intent to insult you in saying that you look too much like one of them. It's just that I was brought up not to covet my siblings. ;-)

Thanks Pelrad. Oh, Dunbar SOOOO-OOO--RRY! Can't I be funny, huh? I guess no one else is familiar with the humorous post-Civil War cartoon from The New York Times, with the hilarious picture of CSA Prez Jeff Davis in a big hoop skirt and bonnet, hitching up his petticoats to outrun unclosing Federal troops? No senses of humour around here, honestly! BTW no one has figured out who Mudcat's own 5, no, make it 6 acusles are? La la la...I ain't naming names...la la la la lare...

Check out footage of Joan Baez at Newport, 1963. Or, if you have a really long memory (and were really lucky), Joan on stage at the old Club 47, barefoot. "They don't make 'em like that anymore..."

Tho' I haven't seen her in recent years, I used to spend a lot of time looking at the covers of early Judy Collins albums. Had to quit when they all got stuck together.

Emmy Lou Harris is also aging VERY well.

Of course I can't disagree very strongly with the above votes for Natalie McMaster — dynamite lady, both for the eyes and the ears.

It's a little sad that my favorites are all from other eras, like Judy Collins from mid-1960s, Sandy Denny from a few years later. Though she's not a pure folky, I think that Shawn Colvin has the look.

But how come none of you women have mentioned Dougie MacLean?

A serious oversight, High and Lonesome! I am hereby putting in my vote for Dougie. And also one for Kirk McLeod, lead singer of Seven Nations (though he's not actually a folkie, per se.) There's just something about a goodlooking guy in a kilt...

Martin Simpson is high on my list - love his tattoos (see the album cover for "When I Was On Horseback) and love his guitar playing even more.

A whole table of young ladies at a Silly Wizard concert (including me, before I met my beloved) were shattered when Andy Stewart dedicated "Slowly, Slowly" to his WIFE - we didn't know he was already spoken for...
