Subject: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Llanfair Date: 23 Jan 01 - 04:18 AM Buff told me yesterday that she has put the Red Lion on the market. Sh hasn't been 100% well for a while now, and wants to retire. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the landlord from the Black Lion doesn't get it, or anyone who will want to change it. Just thought I'd let you know, and it hasn't changed the plans for the gathering in the autumn. Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Jon Freeman Date: 23 Jan 01 - 04:30 AM Best wishes to Buff and everyone else at the Red Lion - I really enjoyed the pub during Llanstock and I hope Buff enjoys a happy (and I'm sure well deserved) retirement. Jon |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: GUEST,micca at work Date: 23 Jan 01 - 05:06 AM Bron, Give Buff my best wishes too... she is truly a gem... for the welcome and enthusiasm and hospitality she showed us during Llanstock I...hope it works out OK for the community.. |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Morticia Date: 23 Jan 01 - 02:51 PM Please give Buff our love......how much does she want for the pub? Maybe a change of scenery and job would be the very thing for me :) |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Llanfair Date: 23 Jan 01 - 05:01 PM I'll pass on your regards, folks. I'm not sure how much she is asking for it, but I should think it's about the price of a broom cupboard in London. Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: InOBU Date: 23 Jan 01 - 06:19 PM What does one feed a red lion? Larry |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: JedMarum Date: 24 Jan 01 - 12:25 AM Where is the Red Lion? I am sure there must be loads of them, but I stayed in Henley-on-Thames at the Red Lion. Oh the stories I won't tell! My first trip to England ... I managed the driving and the ale OK - but my pocket kept filling up with those pesky coins! My dresser was covered with 40 pounds worth before I realized I didn't need to use a note every time I bought a pint! |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Jon Freeman Date: 24 Jan 01 - 01:16 AM Jed, there are loads of Red Lions. This one is in a place called Llanfair Caereinion, near Welshpool in Mid Wales, not too far from the Wales/England border. Jon |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 24 Jan 01 - 04:15 AM Bron The Red Lion versus the Black Lion... sounds positively feudal! Hope you get another excellent landlord/lady Ella |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: SINSULL Date: 24 Jan 01 - 09:25 AM How much does a broom closet cost in London? And does everyone in Wales sound like Jon Freeman? Morticia and I could make this work. |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Llanfair Date: 24 Jan 01 - 12:24 PM No, not EVERYBODY sounds like Jon, some sound like me!!! The cost? Well, if I win œ100k on the lottery tonight, I would be the next landlady, and have enough left over to buy a big car!!!!!!! Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Morticia Date: 24 Jan 01 - 12:45 PM that's an idea.....how about a Mudcat syndicate so we could own and run our own pub? Folk music every night, jello pit next to the dartboard, a permanent place to stay for those in need.....sounds perfect to me. |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Noreen Date: 24 Jan 01 - 01:27 PM Oh yes, Bron, Mary and Morty, count me in! There'd be some wild nights there... Love to Buff. Noreen |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: JedMarum Date: 24 Jan 01 - 04:14 PM jello pit? is this a strange and ancient British Isles custom that has escaped the notice of mainstream westream civilization? or some new wave, exotic barbecue event? |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: Bert Date: 24 Jan 01 - 05:05 PM The jello pit is an ancient Mudcat Tavern institution. |
Subject: RE: Red Lion FOR SALE From: NightWing Date: 25 Jan 01 - 03:58 PM I'd love to buy one, but my next-door neighbor would COMPLAIN!!! when it ate their poodle. *G*
